OK, I'm a little unclear as to the official stance on cloning cast and crew.

Lately I have done a couple of cast lists and notice that other localities are practically empty for their cast sections. I have taken all cast direct from the credits and include CLT documentation where appropriate so can I clone the cast to the other profiles and submit them?

I know obviously for animation the answer is no because of the usual localised voice cast changes but what about for Hollywood movies? Surely the credits don't change release to release apart from very very rare cases? How about for notes? Can I put:
"Cloned cast from UPC 123456789 for which I did a full cast audit from the credits. The relevant CLT results:"

Are we allowed to submit cloned cast in an instance like this or is it not allowed?

Yes, this is allowed. Especially when you're replacing IMDb-mined data, this is very helpful, as it will improve the CLT results for all of us.

All I know is I can not wait to vote on this title. I hope I own it.

Yes you can, Sam, as other have noted. However I would highly recommend that you check the data against the Actual that you own, and include a brief note indicating that it was checked.

If you want to submit completed casts to any Canadian profiles I own that have shiitake mushroomty cast and crew lists, please feel free! I'm sick of doing all this damn work!

Making sure you state exactly where you got the cast from (the dvd you own) will also allow the voters for the profile you're submitting it to, to completely double check the accuracy of the submitted credits.

Whenever I've done this, I've always made it explicitly clear I don't own the profile (and be prepared to run up against some that don't appreciate you submitting to profiles you don't own... just a word of warning) and that for anyone who has a problem with this to please check the credits, and if on the off chance a discrepancy is found, I'll either withdraw my contribution or with the help of others, fix the discrepancy and re-submit.

If there's a big problem with something, I'll bring it to the forums (although I've only had to do this a handful of times) and it can be worked out that way.

Now get to work!
The night is calling. And it whispers to me soflty come and play.

I agree that you should check it first. I've recently had to re-do a Cast and Crew list that was cloned from a profile absolutely full of errors. So this just duplicated all the problems.

+1 on this. I've also done a couple of updates recently where it was previously claimed the cast & crew were as credited, but in reality they were a right mess!

So if you're cloning cast & crew from another profile, check it yourself first. And if you're cloning your cast & crew onto other profiles, say so and ask the owners to check it.

That is precisely why i encourage checking the cloned data, keep in mind Grey that it may NOT be full of errors, it may only be full of error relative to what you own. It is documented that Cast/Crew data is not necessarily the same across Regions/Localities and even Versions.

I hear what you're saying, but these were stupid errors where many things were obvious typos and character names being slightly wrong, actors being completely missing etc.

I must agree, that you should compare it to the DVD Credits.

If you do clone, the verification should be short and sweet, but be sure to make any corrections.

I was thinking about this cloning thing today.
I own two editions of T2. One Canadian release - the Ultimate one. And the US Extreme DVD.
But I'm not sure that the credits are the same.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, as I agree that any "cloned" data should be checked, I came up with a thought.
It'd be nice if there was a site with just the credits from each movie, so I wouldn't have to take out each disc and put it in my PC just for the credits. It's also a mental thing for me: I think there's a chance that I'll spoil the mood for the movie if I try to skip to the credits but see parts of the ending of the movie, or have to see the start of the movie, just to see the studio companies. =/

A site with videos of the start and end credits. It could preferably be streaming videos. You'd search for UPC and locality to find the videos.

But that's me and my wishful thinking. Or is it?
I suppose it boils down to copyright issues (f**k 'em) and the people who would have to upload the video clips.

I think you misunderstand what he is doing.  He is auditing his profile, adding cast and crew from the credits, then cloning that profile to other regions.  Since he doesn't own the discs in those regions, there is no way for him to check them.

That being said, this practice is allowed by Ken.

Greeny for Martian and Kingsfield.

Good post from Skip to cloning in general.
... And a nice see from Unicus of the details in the op.

I agree also with the other users. Cloning is allowed, but the check against the actual credit of the version that is owned is strongly recommend.

Yes. I have already done the full cast audit on the one I own. Itr's this one I want to clone to other profiles. Thanks.
