Identical UPC's, but different pictures on the covers/liners? |

| Posted: | | | | I recently made a contribution for The Pagemaster (UPC: 024543034926). My cover scans are completely different pictures than the existing ones, but the UPC's are identical? Is this because the discs are from different distributors? I thought UPC's were supposed to be tied to a unique item.

| Posted: | | | | Is the film the same? If so it's quite usual for re-releases to have different cover scans. In those cases, it's the original release that's used in the database.
If it's a different film, while not common, it's not unheard of either. It's also the original release that's used. |

| Posted: | | | | Well, I haven't watched them both (just mine), but by the covers they appear to be the same film. Same name, same plot, same actors, etc.

| Posted: | | | | Yeah... rerelease cover scan is all... All you can do is scan it and keep it local as per Rules the online database must have the original release.
Though you can send it to Chris for the re-release cover scan site. See pinned thread in general forum. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | Stimpy: This is not at all unusual. Which is why it's addressed specifically in the Rules. MANY times DVD Distributors will make some change to the Cover and use the same UPC, there is no law that requires them to change the UPC. Typically the disc and all features will be identical, but this is also not necessarily true, particularly if you are rummaging in the bargain bin. We have, over the years, seen instances where the ONLY change was eliminating and WS/FF release and making it a FF release upon moving to the bargain basements, the change is noted on the cover but the UPC does not change. It's a PITA for us collector's but the distributors have every right to do what they please. And our Rules specify that we deal with the ORIGINAL release covers for exactly that reason, perhaps someday Ken will somehow allow for multiple covers, but he hasn't done so in ten years...keep your fingers crossed and maybe your toes too. From the Rules, Stimpy. " If a title is re-released with the same UPC, but different cover images do not contribute the new images. This includes cases where a DVD was initially released in a slipcase, which was later removed. As explained in the introduction you may use your personal images in your local database, but they will not show online." I would hope that you would either withdraw your Contribution or that it will be declined for failure to follow the Rules. One other major note for you, Stimpy, This title was released in 2001, while the copyright on your Cover is 2004Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

| Posted: | | | | Sorry, Skip. I didn't know it was a re-release. Honestly, I don't even know how to tell if a DVD is a re-release, or not, but I'll read the rules and hopefully I'll learn the distinction. Of course, if I had looked at the dates, that would've helped. I was lame. Anyway, I have withdrawn my contribution. In the future, if my covers are a different picture then the existing one, I'll keep them to myself. I'll only contribute if my covers are the same picture, but have better clarity, or whatever, and aren't a re-release, of course.
Thanks to all for the quick replies. | | | Mike |

| Posted: | | | | Ironically, I was about to post a similar question. So, I waited and went vack and re-read the rules, but I'm still not clear about it. I have the Blu-Ray 025195052108 Fast&Furious 2-Disc Special Edition. Only problem is, there are actually 3 discs. The Best Buy Exclusive Bonus Disc is indicated by two stickers on the slip case, which otherwise totally identical to the 2-Disc version. The whole thing appears to be the 2-Disc package, with an extra disc inside and stickers on the slip case. I'm not sure where to find the Release Date to compare with the 2-Disc version. If I wanted to contribute the 3-disc version, how would that be done? Trying to learn here, so be gentle ... | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. | Posted: | | | | As far as I'm aware, in situations regarding limited release editions such as store exclusives, if it has the same UPC as the main release, the main release is the one that's entered. I can't remember if that's in the rules or if it's just the general consensus. |

| Posted: | | | | If you have a Blu-ray drive, you could contribute it by the Disc ID of the first disc. |

It's early but this seems to be a new trend in Hollyweird. They appear to NOT be counting the Digital copy as a disc, thus making it a Two-Disc set. This is the second that i have heard about like this, which is why i say it's early yet. But that is what it appears to be.

Skip I understand what you'e saying, but the reason I asked the question is that this is not the case here. The "original" 2-disc package was in fact the BD + a digital copy on disc. Take a look at the UPC I posted, and you'll see that the back cover talks about the included digital copy disc. The database profile in fact has two discs - 1 BD and 1 digital copy with no disc ID. On the other hand, my version, with the same UPC has 3 discs, as I said before: 1 BD (with the same discID), 1 digiital copy, and 1 Bonus DVD. And the slip case has a Best Buy sticker on it, talking about the Exclusive Bonus disc. So I was considering a contribution to add the bonus disc, but don't know how to do it. Probably somebody more knowledgeable has it queued up anyway, so it doesn't matter. Just trying to learn for the future. | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Skip Ok. Seems a real shame though. It would be cool if I could say "Just like that one" + 1 more disc and a couple of stickers! Seriously though, if I find nobody has done it when the contributions get turned on again, what I think is correct is that I would (1) clone the profile into a new one by disc ID, (2) Add the additional disc, and (3) verify the the BD contents are in fact the same (actually, I guess I couldn't really do that - but I do know that the disc IDs match). Where do I put the picture of the slip case? That's the only place where the 3rd disc is mentioned - on the stickers. I think the rules say use the inside covers, but then you don't get the stickers. Maybe mention the stickers in additional features? | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. Advanced plugins available here. Hey, new product!!!
