I have a rather large collection of DVDs and Blu-rays (700+) and only got DVD Profiler last night, so I'm going through the motions of adding all of them now.
Unfortunately, I don't have the purchase info for each and every one of them anymore, nor did I buy them all from the same store, so having the purchase date auto-set for today or the last-entered date, and the store (purchase place) remembering the last-entered store gets to be frustrating.

Shouldn't it be possible to turn off the automatic (re-)population of those fields through the program's options? I'd rather have those fields blank than incorrect...

Also, can I bulk-select titles after I've added them so I can then set the purchase date, purchase place and/or price for them at once, assuming they were bought at the same date, location and/or for the same price?
I noticed a plugin that's something to do with bulk editing, but if the program can do this seemingly basic task itself, I won't have to install anything extra.

Indeed, there is a built-in way:

[1] Flag all relevant profiles (if there's no check mark visible, right-click a profile and select "Show Flag Indicators"). Pressing Ctrl+A flags all filtered profiles at once (more options under "Collection" --> "Flags").
[2] Unflag the first flagged profile, press Ctrl+P, delete the purchase date, press "OK" and in the main menu select "DVD" --> "Copy".
[3] Now go to "Collection" --> "Flagged" --> "Paste ...", select "Confirm action to overwrite data [...]" and "Purchase Date" (and any other field you want to copy) and click "OK". ATTENTION: the overwriting process will start w/o further confirmation!
[4] Ctrl+U unflags all filtered profiles.

Thanks, that's a time saver. It would have been nice if I could've searched/filtered by purchase date, rather than having to sort by it and then manually flagging 300 titles. But in the end it worked.

Can this be done for the "collection number" too? I have no idea what it's meant to be used for, so I'd rather keep it turned off for all titles...

I guess it's not a big deal this info gets entered incorrectly if you start with it while the collection's small, but it's a pain when you're trying to enter several hundred titles

Sorry, I forgot to mention the flagging options "Flag All Above/Below Current" under "Collection" --> "Flags"

The collection numbers can be set via "Collection" --> "Reassign Collection Numbers...". I for instance use them to find my DVDs on the shelves (instead of the Location and Slot fields).

I've gotten them all in (I think) and manually went through the lot to turn the collection number off. It'd be really nice if those fields could've been disabled by default, but from now on I'll use them, so I guess it's not that big a deal for me anymore

Thanks for the answers though.

Collection number is used for whatever you want it to be used for.  Everyone uses them for different purposes or none at all.
Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here.
Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection.
