Having the cast and crew images / headshots locked in the database is a pain. I would much rather be able to manage them via a separate folder / directory, much like covers. I know that the facility to use a folder is possible within the current application, but to move the existing headshots outside the database an into the folder would be tedious.

Would it therefore be possible to do one of the following:

1) In an upcoming version, migrate cast and crew images to a folder instead of within the database (i.e. an architecture change)
2) Make extracting them an option (either via the program or through a separate script, such as a plugin).

I suspect that a similar, external structure for all images would be preferred by many.

Thanks

Stuart

I would prefer Option 2. An optional "export" would be great, but I would not be happy when it would be forced to have all headshots from now on as individual files. When syncing my folder with my backup drive, it is *much* faster to copy the big 580MB headshot-database, than copying 50000+ individual headshot jpgs.

I agree with SpaceFreakMicha. As long as it's optional no problem. But I also don't like folders containing 50000+ files.

It will also make sharing a lot more difficult. I'm quite happy the way the headshot thread is going now.

I must admit that this one has me a bit confused. Cast and Crew pics do not pass through Invelos in any form. It is wholly an option. We all make the personal decision to use them or not. I am trying to figure out why, if I had made the decision to build my own set of headshots, I would then decide to remove all of that work. But if i did, it would be a simple matter to go in and wipe out my Credit Photos file.

Probably because there is a great community driven headshot contribution thread that has thousands of headshots you upload in one swoop. It would be nice to be able to erase those that you have no need for.

At least that's what I'm gathering from his suggestion but by no means know his exact reasoning. Me personally, I don't think I would use such a feature but if it were optional, I don't see the problem in adding it, except for the possibility of it coming before the things I want to see!

Well, Vittra, except that as I have noted numerous times. Such pictures are copyrighted and sharing of any copyrighted material is a violation of US Copyright law and the potential punishments for such violation are far more than i care too risk. Up to $250,000 and or 5 years for each infraction....no thanks.

Good on you, Sam.

I don't know about British Law, but here you can copy an image from the web for your own usage, it's the sharing that causes the problems.

I honestly don't know but I'm sure it's along the lines of fair use, and I'm sure this would fit into that very easily.

I'm not saying you are wrong since really, I have no idea, but could you find some documentation on that fact? I tried to do a Google search and couldn't track anything down. That said though, I highly doubt that Ken would support the community in it's distribution of headshots if it truly were such an offense.

Admittedly that part troubles me greatly, Vittra. I would like top see Ken on this issue. It follows right along with the Supreme Courts ruling on fair use of copyrighted material. I am not a lwyer and don't play one TV. It's the same law that governs copying of software, movies, music etc. I do worry about the headshot Database and its legality or lack thereof, I do hope that Ken has consulted his attorney on this issue, it seems to me that a disclaimer is in order but... I can only say that I am not willing to take the risk infinitesimal though it may be. People do get arrested for Copyright violation and they are covered in the news several times every year, the last one i heard about was from Houston, TX. last fall and some women, I think in Minnesota. What many people don't realize is that there is more than the criminal charges involved, many times once the criminal case is settled, the person(s) are then sued by the copyright holders for damages .

I am not willing to accept that risk.

They don't want to remove them, they want to extract them from the database.  Some users have been adding headshots to the actual name, within the program.  When you do that, they become part of the database...though I don't know which file they are coded into.

Other users, like myself, have added the images to the "C:\Users\YourUserNameHere\Documents\DVD Profiler\CreditPhotos" folder.  When done this way, they are simply image files like any other image file on your computer.

The request is for an easy way to pull the images out of the db and place them into the folder.

Ok, the let me help you, Martian.

My Documents/DVDPofiler Beta(in my case)/Credit Photos. You will find files listed by UPC# and Disc ID(as necessary) and within those UPC#s/Disc IDs the Headshots associated with that UPC

This is the place where go custom photos (photo matching only the profile : you can have a photo of an actor/actress for each of his/her movies).

Generic photos go automatically in My Documents\DVD Profiler\Databases\Default\actors.blb. This is also the place where go photos extracted from a backup file. This is a coded file.

The request, that I support, is the possibility to extract the photos from that file to work more easily on the collection, specially when you have downloaded a backup file. This will not affect anybody who do not use this option, and even those who use this option may still use normal way.

Give just an example. If you want to track if there are nude photos (to remove them, or to make wallpapers, as you want... ) , it is a pain to scroll for hours down the list. If you could extract them on a folder then work on them with a viewer, it would save much time.
