| Posted: | | | | Need help in finding a birth year for either Pam Wise (editor) Films: Then She Found Me Undefended Dark Matter Transamerica many more titles
Pam Wise (costume supervisor) aka: Pamela J. Wise Films: Hotel for Dogs (Pamela J. Wise) Valkyrie (Pamela Wise) listed in second unit credits Iron Man (Pam Wise) Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause (Pam Wise) Cast Away (Pam Wise) The Polar Express (Pam Wise) Hulk (Pam Wise) many more titles
If there is no birth year to be found then we need some other way to seporate the two people. Paulb99 brought this problem up in a contribution of Cast Away | | | Last edited: by Dragon 6 |

In case we have a problem, I would suggest to use the name with the middle name as common name, and use Credited As were applicable. But I am sure someone will point out this is against the RULES.
Just a thought: supervisors that supervise people actually may rank higher than the people we profile, but supervisors that supervise things? What do they do all day? | | | Hans |

| Posted: | | | | Sorry I've checked & not been able to find a BY for either.
It's a long shot but perhaps try creating a thread to see if the 2nd one is most often credited as Pam or Pamela J. |

Pamela J. Wise: 1 titles (3 profiles): I have found 1 more that she was not contributed for Pamela Wise: 3 titles (6 profiles): |

IMHO, the alternatives are listed because the costume designer is sometimes not actually credited as "costume designer", but given one of those alternative labels. I use it for those cases, but I don't use it to shoehorn a host of additional wardrobe credits into the profile by giving them a misguiding equal costume designer credit together with the ACTUAL costume designer. I'm actually a big fan of the clarification that is given in the crew credits table with regards to editors: how we're told to restrict our entries to the principal ones, "credited together". I try to apply that approach across the board. |

| Posted: | | | | Another thing to watch for with these is that in at least one case, the Costume Supervisor Pam Wise was a Unit Crew member. I know that the Rules don't specificially say not to include them but it's general consensus not to and there's a post here by Gerri saying that it's her opinion to exclude any and all. |

If you don't like the addition of Costume Supervisor, then simply omit it from your local (if you even have one)! And please refrain from trying to ram your personal preferences upon everyone.... | | | Berak

I choose not to do that, and while I happen to think that's actually the intent, I didn't say that the rules don't technically allow for them to be entered. I merely stated how I deal with this, just like Pantheon did before me. You'll have noted that I wrote " I use it", " I don't use it", " I'm a big fan", " I try to apply that". Just my personal opinion - I agreed with Pantheon, and I added a few lines to explain why I feel that way. Don't try to make it into something it's not. But of course you just couldn't pass up an opportunity to turn yet another thread sour for no reason... |

I have to say that I can see where Berak is coming from. The choice of words used, the part I bolded, can easily be seen as a dig at those people who do enter all the available credits listed in the crew chart...as can the use of the word 'technically' which, when used in this context, usually means, while you can do it, you really shouldn't. | Posted: | | | | Normally I would not care but another user brought this up in a contribution that he was doing. I don’t like crediting two separate crew members and their jobs with only one person for both. In this case we have Pam Wise (editor) and a totally different person, Pam Wise (costume supervisor). After doing lots of research I could find no BY for either of them to distinguish them apart. Pam Wise (costume supervisor) is credit as Pam J. Wise (costume supervisor) is credited in Hotel for Dogs. I have Pam Wise (editor) credited in Then She Found Me. I have Pam Wise credited in A Time to Kill, The Pollar Express, The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause, Hotel for Dogs, Hulk, Cast Away. I don’t want to link one person for all these films when it is two separate people and two separate roles. |

| Posted: | | | | I feel for you Dragon. This is the major flaw in using BY to distinguish between people with the same name. We need a different solution. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
