| Posted: | | | | The concept of full open credits for the online database which will allow free text entry of any and every crew role in a film has been bandied about for some time. Such a system would allow for sharing of every credit included in the film. If properly designed, a contributor could submit just what they want to, without having to do the "whole enchilada", and updates to your local would allow you to pick and choose what you want to download.
So the question is, how many people actually want this?
Is the overhead associated with this worth it, both in space required to store the data and time required to enter and/or download the data?
How many people really want to know who the gaffers were, or the main star's driver?
Inquiring minds want to know! | | | Hal |

| Posted: | | | | I didn't vote as I wasn't sure how to. I do have an opinion. And I wouldn't go as far to say it is a crazy idea. But at the same time it is not what I would prefer either.
My opinion is... I rather have this compared to what we have now... as I will not do crew credits now because of the confusing and incomplete rules for them. I believe in typing the roles as you see them. So while not my top choice... I do feel it is better then what we have now.
But what I would really want is to have the sections like we have now... but change the roles to strictly text format and type what you see only for that section. And still have an uncontributable field for those that wants to track a crew type that we do not track yet. This way we don't have to worry about such things as "gaffers" or the "main star's driver" as you mentioned. | | | Pete |

Based on what you have stated, you do not support full open credits as I described it above. | | | Hal |

Whiel I understand you, What is AArt department, what is Sound, ANY given Credit list will present many challenges in this area most films do not clearly delineate the depts, they can be scatterd all over the place. The only thing they seem to clearly delineate, no matter the film is the Unit and Location Crew, but sometimes the ending of said Crew is not always clear.

It was a simple yes or no question, not multiple choice. Either you want full open credits, or you want something else. If it helps, just change "This is a crazy idea" to "No, Thanks". | | | Hal |

| Posted: | | | | I understand what you are saying Skip... really I do... but I would think the name of the role should give an indication if it belongs in a section that we track. As I was not meaning the credits themselves would necessarily be in group format... just that we go by the role to see if it belongs in one of the sections we track at this time. Is it perfect? no! but then again I haven't heard anything that is perfect... including full open credits. As I would hate to see the size of the lists in the profiles if we did that! | | | Pete |

I am too literal of a person... I can not vote "this is a crazy idea" and believe I am voting for what I feel is right. Sorry. If you wanted a pure yes or no poll... that is what you should have made it... plain and simple. | | | Pete | | | Last edited: by Addicted2DVD |

Sort of a "credited as" for crew roles but still within a well defined category. I'm not interested in completely open credits though. I would neither contribute nor vote for full open credits. | | | First registered: February 15, 2002 | | | Last edited: by Nexus the Sixth |

| Posted: | | | | Personally I don't have time to go through the updates as they are. If you had to review each and every crew member and accept them one at a time I know I wouldn't do it. FWIW I don't believe there is anything selfish or inappropriate about starting this poll. I do agree with Pete that the wording could have been different perhaps but the timing for the poll is right on. |

| Posted: | | | | I would like Open Credits but in a limited fashion.
Open Credits should only be used within the existing categories we presently use. Or any future categories that are added later.
However, the art crew needs to be divided up.
So Costume credits, makeup, makeup effects, creature effects and visual effects and others that I can't think of at this moment would be taken out of the Art Crew and each would have their own separate category.
So those that are interested or not interested in those categories could set up their own local database for what categories they are interested in. If someone isn't interested in Visual Effects they don't have to include it in their local DB.
On a side note I would like to see Creature Effects changed to something different. Perhaps Non-Human Effects would be a better term which would cover everything from creatures to androids to dinosaurs and the effects credits that pertain to same. |

| Posted: | | | | This is nothing new to me, I have been noodling Open Creds for ummmm almost FIVE years now. I have never come to the program or the rules with a personal agenda, i have no right to dictate the wants of users beyond what the credits ACTUALLY say, and we have come up with methods to even deal with SOME of those issues, thankfully.
Cubby, let's look at your idea for minute. Like I said this is not new to me. Open Creds limited, how do you determine the limits. Then assuming you can actually do that, then how do you decide what goes within those limits, can we put in Assisrtant Sound Editor, Associate Sound Editor or even Intern Sound Editor (the very bottom of the food chain). While the idea is laudable, I concluded that there was no effective to control it AND prevent the kind petty bickering and back-biting that results all to often. The ONLY way to end THAT is with totally open credits and we enter what we see, as much or as little as we wish. I now understand why Ken originally only gave us Directors, but i don't think that was adequate. Like I said I have been gaming this issue for YEARS and cannot come up with something which will actually work AND achieve the desired goals and without discriminating against users who may want some arcane piece of data and others who wish to share the same piece of data. The Online should not serve the few, like Rick, it should serve ALL users. And those of us who want less, well then we have a cross to behave on behalf of the LARGER Community.
