| Posted: | | | | Ive noticed on the last few combos that have been contributed for instance Coraline the dvd version does not have the "Enhanced" box ticked for video. Am I wrong to think these dvd's would also be Anamorphic? |

| Posted: | | | | I haven't seen vey many non-anamorphic releases for several years now. They do come around on ocxcassion but they are rare inded, just as anamorphic was a rare animal 10 years ago. I have yet to see a non-anamorphic DVD in a BD Combo and I just did Race to Witch Mountain yesterday. Just as with some other pieces of data, we have some users who haven't a clue and their data winds up having to be changed, for example I just was forced to change to films from USHE to USHV...it's right there on the cover, plain as day but there ya go. Or the one s that say Twentieth Century Fox instead of Twentieth Century-Fox, I think courtesy of the actions of a few users we have some others who are trying to force their VERSION of what the data should be instead of what it really IS.
But I have yet to see a non-anamorphic film released in a BD Combo.

| Posted: | | | | So I would imagine then that 1:33 ratios are also anamorphic?? If so how come? is it the built in black pillars that would then give a 1:78 image ?? and if that is the case wouldn't the newly ratio to your 16 x9 tv is now 1:78 from 1:33 .. ??? | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. | Posted: | | | | It couldn't be done anyway as I believe a lot of viewers are today still using their 4x3 TV's bigscreen or small for their BlueRay hookup.. there fore they would get a 4:3 image with black pillars on eachside .. But was just wondering if some company down the road would eventually consider that we all have 16x9 TV's one day and they may start inserting the image in between 'two pillars' for a 1:78 ratio ... | | | In the 60's, People took Acid to make the world Weird. BTW HDTV ist 16x9, so thats exactly what "the companies" expect you to have right now. cya, Mithi | | | Mithi's little XSLT tinkering - the power of XML --- DVD-Profiler Mini-Wiki | | | Last edited: by Mithi |

Strangely, the 50-minute making of-documentary on various R2 DVD versions of 'Santa Claus: The Movie' is presented like that (not sure whether the same issue occurs in other regions). From an on-line review ( here): Quote: "The only real downside to this documentary is its presentation on disc: it's encoded as anamorphic pillarboxed widescreen, with black areas at the left and right sides of the screen. This is more than a little infuriating to those with 4:3 televisions. If a programme is made in 4:3 format, there's no point presenting it in anamorphic format: this will only result in reduced picture resolution. It should have been encoded in 4:3." | | | Last edited: by T!M |

| Posted: | | | | Very interesting, though I am always skeptical when it comes to third party. Mt R1 version is 2.35 Anamorphic Only. But interesting nonetheless.

The dvd version that comes with it is the same as the disc in the original release (upc: 027616810021). Double sided. includes widescreen on one side, pan and scan on the other, the widescreen is non-anamorphic (it's the reason I replaced this movie with the blu-ray version).
I also just double checked and put the dvd in my dvd player and I get black bars on all four sides of the movie.

| Posted: | | | | For some reason, the last batch of releases from MYA Communication have been released as widescreen nonanmorphic (Revenge of the Crusader was the one I just watched last night). Very annoying in the modern world.
While 1.33:1 anamorphic is possible, it gains nothing for those with widescreen sets and those with 1.33 sets will see a noticeable degradation in quality. So they don't do it (seems to me there were one or two releases that did it a while back, but those are oddities and I can't recall their names). | | | "This movie has warped my fragile little mind." |

| Posted: | | | | the flipper dvd is not anamorphic, which is what the OP was refering to Quoting Mike: Quote: for instance Coraline the dvd version does not have the "Enhanced" box ticked for video. I was just pointing out a case that i personally verified were the included bonus dvd copy of the movie was not anamorphic...i don't fully understand all this talk about an anamorphic 1:33 source or where/why that came up -Agrare |

| Posted: | | | | I don't really like the terminology DVD Profiler uses here. Strictly speaking, anamorphisis is a feature of lenses, not video. Blu-rays are all 16:9 enhanced, which is the term we should be using. |

The industry uses both Anamorphic and 16:9, it's not Profiler, Buddy. And they have used for over 10 years now, I understand what you are saying, but your beef isn't with profiler.
