Maybe I missed it, but is there an option to filter a collection to find movies or TV profiles?

the closest thing I could find is in the genres... which is why I am sure to have anything that originally aired on TV to have a Television genre spot.... whether it is a TV Series, Miniseries or TV movie.

could you use the new Rating system to do this, not sure if thats filterable, but if that ability was added that would probably work quite nicely. also would potentially free up that genre slot

and there is always the old fail safe of making a tag for it.

That'll only work for localities that actually have both Film and TV ratings. For other localities you can't set rating system to Television.

Yeah, we in the UK sttill need to rely on the "television" genre for filtering.
However I have no objection to it being added to the filters for those regions that do have separate rating systems.

Actually that was never updated in the rating filters. I asked about it and was told it is set up as "what it equals" So something like TV-G comes up with G rated movies and TV-PG comes up with PG rated movies as such.

I would really like to see an upgrade on this to only show the exact rating I am looking for... or to do what is talked about here... be able to filter TV from Movies.

As others here have pointed out, you can filter on genre = Television.
However, having found that highly unreliable (so many TV shows lack it... and the same happens for genre = Anime), I have used the magic fix-all of tags. This has the added bonus that I can filter into further detail using child tags. I have (and what they mean):

Television
Anthology - A series where the episodes are entirely unrelated, even by cast
Hallmark - Hallmark productions have a recognisable style
Miniseries - Series that were designed to run over several nights.
Serial - The old serials that used to play before the main feature in cinemas
Series - Any regular TV series. May or may not have ongoing storyline (sometimes tempted to split into two sections)
Sketch - Shows made up by lots of small, generally unrelated segments
Tie-in movie - A movie based on a TV series
Web - A series that was made for the internet

I forgot to mention, if you have a tag for TV, don't forget that you can use that same tag to filter for "non-TV" (which won't just be movies if you have filmed plays, music videos, etc.), but does the job a high percentage of the time. Simply use the negative select (click a second time so the box becomes blank).

But here's the thing, there needn't be a work around now with DVDP 3.5... We now have the "Rating System" (which I know is used to determine if a profile uses G, PG, etc and TV-G, etc) but couldn't that be used as a way to filter between the two?

But how many ratings systems have dual ratings? Ken may not think it's worth implementing if it's only useful in a couple of localities.

Using that logic, why even have it, it's only useful for a couple localities anyway, right? Of course, maybe it isn't worth the time or effort after all.

"Rating System" has a very specific meaning, and using it for something else seems a bit short sighted.

First of all, allowing it to be set for "Television" for localities that do not have a rating system for television is inventing fictitious data, which is always iffy.

Secondly, what if, in the future, for whatever reason, someone comes up with a third rating system? Let's say a rating system for instructional videos. Or perhaps an alternative TV rating system.

Unlikely? Maybe. Possible to work around if it happens? Probably. But if we really need a way to tell television productions from film productions I would much rather have a dedicated way to do this, rather than forcing a square peg into a round hole.

That's all I want. I was just trying to figure out if there was an easier way, that's all.
