I was wondering why the amount of fields available in report creation is a much smaller subset of all fields that are available in dvd profiler. I am working on a project that with the use of the "tags" field would really help.
I know there is a report creation section but I thought that it might promote more anwsers of why or why not this idea could work.
My need is that I am trying to set up a multiple storage areas for DVDs "without" having to be concerned what "collection number" is used or their sequencing. Using the already existing features in DVD Profiler, I can flag the Dvd's I want, then mass update them with a specific "tag" for example "Daughter's Room" (Collection --> Flagged --> Edit Tags). Now no matter what "collection number" I have , I will be able to identify what Dvd's are in her room. Previously I had bracketed off certain "collection numbers" for each specific location but that becomes a major hassle as you can imagine.
But thats not the only reason I want to use a "tag", it would alsp make it real easy to create a all inclusive listing of all the Dvd's in the house and if the "tag" field was made available in the report generator, I could include it right next to collection number and then when I am looking for a DVD in the All inclusive report, it will let me see its location in the house.
The major postive point is that editing the Dvd's in this way is less effort since I am using mass updating techinques to "flag and tag" so there is no need to manually edit each DVD. In addition once set up you can easily re-edit if you should want to move a group of Dvd's.
I did not want to use the "Location and Slot" fields in Personal Information as they do not take advantage of mass updating thru flagging and they are not currently included in the report generator field.
What do you think ?

| Posted: | | | | I'm not sure about the mass-updating bit (did you look into the BulkEdit plugin?) but location and slot are available in a report. Add the Disc Information field to your report and on the left hand list of values you're looking for "Show Location" and "Show Slots". Set either or both to True. To make it tidier, you can set "Show Description" to False. |
