I'm horrible at remembering names. A personality fault, but I'm sure I'm not alone there. So when I look at a DVD and see that such and such played this particular character, I often times have no idea which character that was.

This would probably be more used for roles related to "voice only" because if Brad Pitt played a certain character you would probably recognize him so therefore know which character he played. But it could also be used for heavily "costumed" roles like say, Doug Bradley in Hellraiser.

My purposes would more be for animated releases where a given voice actor plays a role, but I can't remember what that role was just by the name, so having the ability to add a pic, similiar to the headshot feature, would be great.

I'm not sure how many others would use this, but it is something no other database, online or not, does, and I would love to see it on DVDprofiler.

Just so I'm sure this is coming across the right way. I would like to be able to add a pic of say Homer Simpson (not that I don't know that particular role, just an example) to the local database. So that when I look at the voice actor's credits and it says he/she played Homer Simpson I could click on something or see said pic of Homer.

This very well may already be possible through the use of HTML windows, but I'm a complete novice when it comes to HTML and programming so a feature included in the program would be ideal. But if someone feels like walking through a dummy, by all means, help me out!

I'm not sure if it's what you mean but are you aware that 3.5 now supports custom headshots?
What you can do is copy a picture onto the clipboard, right-click on the area for the headshot and instead of selecting "Paste" select "Custom Paste" and this places the picture in the headshot, but only for that profile - every other profile sees the normal headshot.
So in the case of the Simpsons, you could have a picture of Homer in all your Simpsons profiles but a normal headshot for Dan Castellaneta for his appearance in Arrested Development. You would have to do this on a profile by profile basis - but would it achieve what you want?

I'd actually like that feature to be expanded so that you can assign a headshot to multiple profiles at once. It could bring up something similar to the Box Set Contents screen.

Not particularly, but I appreciate the suggestion. I would still like to see Dan Castellaneta's headshot attached to him, since he is the voice actor. But having the ability to add a headshot to the role side of things would be nice. In the case of Homer, I think most everyone knows who Homer is in the Simpsons. But say for instance an episodic character. This character that may only appear in an episode or two, may very well be voiced by a well known actor/voice actor. When looking up said actor/voice actor, currently it would just display that episodic character's name. But depending on whether you learn better via pictures or text (two different types of learning personalities), chances are you won't remember who this person played without a pic.

Like I said, this very well may be just "my problem" and other users might never want, or use this fuction. But I think it would be great and posted to see if it really is just "my problem", or a feature that others would also enjoy.

Hopefully I'm understanding your suggestion correctly northbloke.

Many voice actors only do voice work, but I would still like to have the headshot of the actual person behind the voice as well. Just would like the ability to add a pic of the role as well.

I do not fancy even more local only features. For me DVD Profiler is about sharing DVD profiles.

After playing around with what you suggested northbloke, this is actually pretty close to what I'm looking for and really appreciate your suggestion. While not *exactly* what I'd like, I realize that I'll probably never see this feature implemented.

Also after spending some time actually trying to do what I suggested, it's a whole lot of work...  I can't imagine too many people going through *that* much more effort for each profile, nor do I believe I will even do so other then maybe a select few of my favorites.

Thanks again for the suggestion north! Brought a feature that I wasn't aware of to my attention.

Cheers Northbloke, never knew that could be done!  Am I right in thinking that the custom picture replaces the default one?  Would be great if you could have both.

Yeah, it replaces the default one, but only for that particular profile. So when viewing viewing all credits by a particular actor, you can use a custom paste on each profile on that actors list of profiles. You can on the other hand remove the custom paste at any time giving you back the default headshot image. I agree though, I wish I could keep both.

Cheers.  I also take it that the custom headshots couldn't be shared like with the default ones?  Although tbh if we can only have one or the other I think I'd have to go for the default ones.

The custom headshots are stored as image files inside folders named after the UPCs which are stored inside the CreditPhotos folder.
It's not going to be as easy sharing these kind of headshots as they are profile specific and so only other people with the exact same DVD would get the benefit.
It's not quite true that they overwrite the default headshot, it's more accurate to say that they sit over the top of the default headshot. If you remove the custom headshot from a profile, the default one remains. and of course the default headshot still shows on any other profile containing that person.

Edit: one idea I thought might be nice was if there was a little "swap" icon in the corner of the thumbnail so you could flick between the two headshots.

Now this I like, probably wouldn't be that hard to implement either, I would imagine. Since both images are stored either way, a way to swap between the two would be great IMO. Thanks again north for another insightful idea!

+1 from me!  It would also be great if upon double clicking the custom headshot window a web browser be launched with a google images search for "headshot 'name of actor' 'name of film'".  Just tried it with a few examples and it works well.

Does the gallery have a feature like this?

Well.... not exactly a swap button... but there is something like this now. Just double-click on the name (bring up the list of all movies you have with them)... then click the image in that screen and it will flick between the 2 headshots.

It would be cool if you could do the same thing when you are just in the normal cast list for that movie as well.

Awesome! Thanks so much Addicted, had no idea you could do that and this works just fine for me. I do agree it would be nice to be able to switch between the 2 while in the cast list, but this will definetely suffice. Thanks again for the tip!
