I know this has been discussed before, but usually hidden in other threads, so I wanted to get this in its own thread.

All too often I see changes like "John Public" -> "John Q Public [John Public]" with no other source than CLT numbers. Every time I have to check for myself that these are not two different people. Usually they aren't, but still the contributor should include some source to show that they are the same.

Or is that asking too much?

I don't think it's asking too much. As a matter of fact, I think it should be required.

No it's not too much to ask.  We should insist on it.

I vote no if they don't prove both names are indeed for the same person. I did so on one just yesterday.

Seems like a very reasonable request.  I usually vote 'no' with a note of, "Some sort of proof that they are the same person?"
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

I've voted "No" several times recently on contributions like this. Some have updated them with some sources to back up that they're the same person but most leave them. Afraid to say that they seem to get accepted.

99.9% of the time I will absolutely vote NO without some documentation that NameA=Name B. If you want to make assumptions and expect me to buy into them then please don't Contribute, I view unsupported data as BAD.
