I'm quite sure this will get shot down but you don't know if you don't post!

I'd like to see a credited as type system for the Country of Origin field. This would be used for countries that have changed their name since a film was made.

Two example countries where this could apply -

East/West Germany - Germany
Czechoslovakia - Czech Republic & Slovakia

In place of a "common name", I suggest using the current name of the country. The benefit of this is should a country change its name some time down the line, the new name would replace the old name in the country list already in DVDP.

I don't have an opinion on the merits of this request, other than to suggest you need to come up with a different name than "Credited as" since the CoO is rarely shown in the credits.
Another Ken (not Ken Cole)

Oh I know that it would need to be called something else. It was just the easiest way I could think of to allow people to understand what I was suggesting

So how do you find the most credited name? And in what language?

I agree, and I also wonder how you link it since in many cases the association is one-way (i.e. Russia is part of the Former Soviet Union, but just because something is part of the Former Soviet Union does not make it Russian).

Sorry, I had that bit in in my original draft but forgot to post it!

I've updated the first post. As for language, using the method I suggested then translation files would be fine for the current name. For the credited as name, I'm not sure as unless Ken wanted to add those names in as well (in which case translation would work), they'd have to be manually entered like with the existing cast/crew entry.

That still doesn't address Staid S Barr's question about which language.  I'm not really up with global geography, but examples like Italy (anglicised name) / Italia (local name) and Brazil (anglicised name) / Brasilia (local name) come to mind.  These are variations, but what about when you get a country like Greece (anglacised name) / Elláda (transliteration of ????da)?  Perhaps, if it's what you intend, you should state that you want the (most) accepted English name for the country.

If a country splits up into two (or more) like e.g. former Yugoslavija it would be quite hard to determine in which of the new countries the movie originates.
So for the sake of a peaceful forum ... Proposal not supported
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Good example, this gives you a choice of four languages, and English is not one of them.

Why is the language important? The language is dependent upon the UI language of DVDP is it not?

I don't see that being any different to how it currently is! To use my example from before of Czechoslovakia, if a film was made before the country split then would it go to the Czech Republic or Slovakia? Yet another reason to also support having multiple CoO.
