Ok, so I know I've seen contributions where we've allowed rating details on unrated discs so long as the rated version is on that disc (with the explanation). Is this not the case? I've submitted one and have 7 yes votes and 6 no.

As far as I'm aware, the higher rating always takes precedence which would mean you have to mark the profile as "Unrated" even though there is also a rated version.

Edit: from the rules: "When there is no rating, or an unrated version of the film on the disc, use the NR rating."

I know this, but we've gotten many contributions of people adding ratings to unrated discs (where the theatrical version is available). And note, I'm talking about rating details (Language, Sexual Content, etc) not the actual rating.

Edited to say, I've withdrawn that contribution. Not worth the hassle when you've got some saying it's not allowed while others saying it is. Someone else can contribute these.

My apologies. I'm still not used to the new fields.
If the details are from a valid source, then I see no reason not to - it's information directly related to the content of the disc.

Edit: sorry to hear you decided to withdraw - you could have let it run it's course and see what the screeners thought of it. A "no" vote doesn't necessarily automatically mean a rejection.
But this is the problem when people race to fill in the new fields before the rules are updated to accomodate them. I'd have preferred it for Ken to filter out all the new fields from contributions until the rules are set for them.

Well, someone else can do these then. I've resubmitted without the rating details.

On a side note (and I'm guilty of this as well), can we stop with the "agreed" and "ditto" and just state the reason you're voting no? It'd be fine to say, "I agree with Username, such and such addition is not allowed".

Edit: That's OK, I can keep it local. It would be nice if this kind of thing would be added to the rules (either way).

I actually prefer it when people just put "Agree with X" or "Agree with the others". We don't need to have the exact same reasons typed out over and over IMHO.

Yeah, but it seems to be too easy just to say rather than understanding why you're voting no. But whatever, just my own thing, lol.

The downside is of course if the original voter changes their vote, so you end up with a bunch of reasons simply saying "agree" or "ditto".
The worst one I saw was someone saying "If name says no, then no" - I thought, are you too lazy or stupid to make a decision on your own?

I was one of the no voters.  My reason for the no vote was that, by definition, there can't be rating details for a film that is unrated.

The details pertain the the rated version, not the unrated.  So, for the unrated profile, the details should be left blank.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

But if the rated version is on the same disc or profile then the rating details do pertain to the profile.

I did see this approved recently:

An "Unrated" disc was submitted with the rating details added as were shown on the back cover's Canadian Rating stamp. The problem is that it's US profile (not Canadian), and the only US rating listed on the covers is "Unrated"

But there can be Unicus... remember? we talked about this before... and I even showed you this picture as proof:

Of course this is another matter... and I would never add Rating Details to an Unrated DVD taken from a Rated version of the movie.

But in the case we are talking here... both versions  being on the disc.... I don't know where I stand... which is why I didn't vote on this when I saw it. Though I would lean to the fact that the Rating used on the profile was NR so the Details should for the unrated version only... which means not adding a rating detail.

Details shmetails.

The Rules tell us to use the highest rating, which in this case would be either NC-17 or NR depending on the actual data.

Even if the DVD has both R and NR, We use the NR. The NR version does not have any ratings detail because it is not rated so we should not add any ratings detail.
