It does not get capitalized because it is a joining word. Tis is the sticking point though, since "The" is part of a title which could has been used for a cartoon to stand alone "The Chipmunks" would be correctly Capitalized. It's not "Jason and the Argonauts" or "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" Steve |

It should be capitalized if the Rules told us to use standard capitalization rules for Titles, but unfortunately, for English titles, that's not what the Rules tell us to do. They simply tell us to "check capitalization" (whatever that means) and then further down it tells us not to capitalize specific words including the word 'the'. No exception is identified stating "unless the word 'the' is used as part of the name of a group".
