... do it.

Hello all,

I am attempting to found one software that can give me all the 'normal' data a disc has, i.e.: disc ID, Region and other pertinent data.

Now I am using different softwares to obtain those pieces of information.. is there one that would actually do it all? Right now I am using DVD Decrypter to get the region(s) and another to get other piece of info (total of 4 LOL)

This to enable me in contributing with the most accurate information to this great DB !

Nero, with the Info tool you get the necessary disc info, like regions aspect ratio, etc;  and with the recode part you get access to all the other needed info like running time, audio tracks.
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?

Agree with Goblin that Nero is a great tool for this.

Also DVDInfo Pro is a good tool to determine region coding and disc layers.

Another great thing about Nero, is that if you play the DVD in "Media Mode", you get a very accurate description of the Audio Tracks encoded on the Disc..

Wrong, you get the accurate info of the surround flag for 2 channel audio. But a 2 channel audio track without surround flag can still be mono, stereo, or surround with a missing flag.

Well - it has worked just fine for me so far - and I've done a few...

How can you say that it has worked "fine" and gives "very accurate data" if it cannot separate mono, stereo or surround without  a flag?

So sorry - I've been talking about "Cybelink's Power DVD", and don't know why I misread Nero ---> Power DVD

Again - so sorry for my error...  (I really am embarrased beyond belief because of this..)

Wish I would have known before I purchased Nero9    .... I never had to purchase a burning software since one came with my burner.. I guess I went from a 'Lada' to a Porch

That being said.. Nero works pretty good.. I have tried that Nero Recode.. that software seems to be the solution, however, when I insert a movie to see all the data at a glance, it says that it is a protected disc (well.. after all it is an original disc..) ... is there a way to make that software work to extract all those piece of info without having to run the disc to read the menu on the disc??

I have several different programs that I use for this purpose. They all have ther pluses and minuses, PowerDVD (which is not free, but you know that). DVD Decrypter (Free) good for Regions, Rintime, Audio (some), Layers and so forth. Also, DVDShrink (free) good for picking up RCE data on older discs (I don't think RCE has been actively used in sevral years, but i could be wrong), also good for picking up DD 2.0 Surround Flag. DD 2.0 Stereo and DD 2.o Mono can only be analyzed via ear if its good enough, or via graphical analysis.

Evening Skip (another thumbs up!),

I have saved the list you type for research in the morning... the software I purchased today seems to be able to extract everything without having the need to 'play' the movie (when I try to copy the disc in order to have the software to actually display all the important data (being so close, yet not able to touch it haha), which obviously fail due to copy protection)..

At least I was not too far off.. that DVD Decrypter was what I was using for the regions (well, after I mistakingly insisted that a movie was Region 1 when in fact was 1,4 (meh, not my fault, it was the other tool I was using which was displaying only one region haha) ;-)

Have a good one!

Phew.... I have found something pretty good (it actualy provide quite a bit!)

IfoEdit v0.971 (free)... When you open "VIDEO_TS.IFO" on the movie disc, you will see all sort of very good information... Fairly easy to understand and pretty fast!

Enjoy!

How do you see if the track is surround flagged with this software? I only see 2ch. with tracks that I'm pretty sure they are surround.

Try a program called AnyDVD,  it runs a system extension and decrypts the disk upon entering.  Then it doesn't matter what software you use....

and don't forget  VSO inspector .. another free program for diagnosing DVD encrpted data.
It can also analyse DVD layers and also can read the dvd for repair services if needed
