A dumb question from a newbie! |

| | Posted: | | | | Hello all. I have just purchased a license and have begun the task of loading my DVD information into my database. While doing so, I have noticed several inconsistencies between sets of DVD’s. For example, SeaQuest Seasons 1 and 2 are entered into the database differently. I have also noticed a few other things with other sets.
My “dumb” question is: If I correct these issues when I find them and “contribute” them, they just don’t instantly go to the database and are put up for review by others?
It just seems easier to do this while I am entering movies then going back later to do corrections. I just want to make sure of the way things are done. I do not want to screw something up or make someone angry.
I have reviewed topics dealing with this, but I just wanted to make sure that I am following processes and procedures correctly.

Secondly you don't detail the inconsistencies, BUT if the data that you find in the ACTUAL shows, the credits and so forth, are inconsistent then so be it. We deal with real data from the Actual shows, not data that is made up by someone so that it can be "consistent", that is something you can do locally with your own data, but it is not for you, me or anyone else to decide that the data in this season is correct and this season it is not, the data is what it is and that is what we use. My guess is the data as you have found it is likely correct. And welcome to THE ASYLUM. Nurse Ratched has received your membership and is preparing your ummmm suite for you. Joke on the side, one thing I have learned quite fast and abruptly (nothing to do with Roots 30th Edition - inside Joke), is the rules are everything for the Invelos Database. From my short experience I have found out that checking the packaging without looking indie the actualy discs could be a mistake: Sometimes you will find inconsistency with what is printed on the box and the disc, the end credits on the disc is the rule (I know I could start a debate here, credit could have mistake blah blah), however, I do agree that a line as to be drawn somewhere, the disc it is!
Lastly, nothing prevents you to check other outiside source to compare note, sometimes it is necessary, however, the content of the actual disc and the packaging are the base!!

As for inconsistencies, if the data is incorrect you should indeed correct it and submit the correct data.
However, if by inconsistencies you mean perhaps the way the titles were entered in do not match each other (I'm just guessing here from the line about SeaQuest 1 & 2 being entered differently) ... for instance, I have these titles in my collection:
- Hellsing Ultimate Series 2: Limited Edition
- Hellsing Ultimate Vol. 3: Limited Edition
- Hellsing Ultimate Series: 1: Limited Edition Two Disc Set
Obviously the three were entered by different people who interpreted the data on the cover differently. Those were the titles given me when I downloaded the profile. They are actually incorrect, as the volume numbers are given in Roman numerals on the package. But if the numbers were given in Arabic numerals then none of them would be incorrect, simply different interpretations of the presented data.
If this is the basic case with your SeaQuest (don't have the series in my collection so I can't check), then that would be a local change only.

| | Posted: | | | | Another thing to remember, depending on what the inconsistencies are that you talk about, is that currently the database can only hold the intital release of a DVD.
So if these Seaquest DVDs have been re-issued under the same UPC but with some changes to the covers etc. then you'll have to leave them as is for the online I'm afraid. Of course your local database can be changed to reflect your copies. |

The reason I was using SeaQuest as an example is only that in this database season one is listed as a slip case and the four disks are also listed, but they have not been added to the SeqQuest season two. Also under studios for season one, Universal Television, Amblin Television, and Universal Studios Home Entertainment are listed, but only Universal Studios Home Entertainment is listed for season two. Perhaps “inconsistency” is not the proper term, but rather missing information.
So considering that season two also has four disks in a slip case, it proper for me to add that to my database and “contribute” it to the group? Or, should I not interfere with another person’s work?
That was initially what I was trying to ask. Sorry if my question was confusing. I would think that it would be a service to contribute things I add to my database along the way, such as details like this.

| | Posted: | | | | If you come across a movie (profile) that is incomplete and you will find some from time to time feel free to correct them and submit it but make sure someone else is not fixing the same thing as you are trying to do. As Skip said read the rules but don't just read them, understand them. Some users read the rules and don't understand them or even disagree with it, so they get allot of no votes or a lot of declined contributions and they cannot figure out why. If you are having trouble understanding something in the rules by all means bring it up in the forums and one of the many seasoned veterans will be glad to help. The biggest thing is all most all of the info comes from the disc and the few things that do not come from the disc comes from the cover (Overview, ratings, Production Companies and rating detail)
