Can i Clone an entry simply by changing the upc?
Because I just got the German Blu Ray "Batman hält die Welt im Atem". I wanted to use the UK Release of this title "Batman - The Movie" as a reference. The German Version isn't listed at all so far.

So how do I create a new one? I know how to change all the details but I never had to start from scratch. So please tell me that I can simply clone the British Entry and change the details that need to be changed.

if you download the uk profile, change the UPC and the locality.

just remember to confirm the details from the disc before contributing.

easiest way is to use this plugin BulkEdit
  • flag the profile you want to clone
  • right click on the title in the collection list window, select flag
  • from DVD Profiler menu: collection
  • flagged
  • clone to manual
  • select Locality
  • select Copy Cast/Crew

  • you should now find the cloned title in the owned with an UPC/EAN: Manual DVD #000000000001

No Giga, the easiest way to clone this one would be how zwoti mentioned, Download the title as found in the online (in this case the UK version), change the EAN (if need be) change the Locality, varify cast / crew any other changes that might need to be done. Submit under new EAN / Locality.

Dare sight easier than creating a manual profile. No Copy and Pasting, ending up with a title that would then have to be removed afterwards, etc.

As Snarbo said - you are making this far too difficult.

I agree.  The only reason to clone a profile is if you want to keep both the original and the clone in your database (like if you have two copies of the same UPC/EAN).  Cloning certainly has its uses, but this case it isn't one of them.

I don't favor cloning for much the same reason as ken, I view it as extremelaziness for one. And for another since some many Profiles have erroneous data in them cloning only magnifies the problem. I buiod EVERY profile from scratch unless I am cloning my own data.
