Hello everyone

I have a question about what country should be used in the country of origin field when it's a co-production and the studios are from different countries.
Example: i've recently contributed some info for the title Unleashed/Danny the Dog.
Since there is only one field for Country of Origin i put France there.
My arguments would be three of the production companies involved are French two British one American and one Chinese.
The Writer/Producer is French and the Director is also French.
I know that last argument maybe isn't that relevant but still i want to mention it showing the major French involvement in the making of the movie.
on IMDB at 'Additional details' France is mentioned first at 'Country'
On the other hand, filming locations were mostly in the UK and WIKI also mentions UK first at the Country info.
Should filming locations be considered when trying to find out which country was mostly involved with the production of the film?
If so then for instance 'For a Few Dollars More' would get Spain as Country of origin as it was almost entirely shot in Spain.
But has an Italian title as original title, Italian director, many Italian writers and to make it again hard to say which country to use, Italian, German and Spanish production companies involved.
Should we research which company has invested the most in the production?

Giga Wizard pointed out to me that most of the time when it's a co-production and he votes no when someone puts in a country in the Country of origin field in his contribution, Invelos rejects the contribution, but my contribution of Unleashed was accepted by Invelos.

Anyway, I'll stop now to let you react to my long question/story. I almost feel like i'm discussing this only by myself

I've just checked and it still hasn't made it into the rules, but the only thing we need to look at when deciding "country of origin" is where the primary production company is based.
This is different from the film studio or the distributor and can be different from the major filming location.
The usual example we give is the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The film studio is New Line (American), but the primary production company on them is WingNut - a New Zealand company. So all the Lord of the Rings films should have New Zealand as their country of origin.

So in the example you've given you would need to find out which production companies are involved. Your best bet is to look at the opening credits and see if there's a credit like: "A xxxx Production". Sometimes more than one company can be mentioned.
If you find a company and can find out where they are based - that's your country of origin.
If there are multiple companies from mulitple countries, we have no good way of recording this at the moment - best suggestion has been that we leave these blank for now in the hope in the future we can enter more than one country.

Edit: and to answer one of your other points - we don't look at investment, we only look at the companies that actually did the production work. So if a company only invested in a film, they aren't considered a production company in this situation.

Edit (again): If my research is correct and TF1 Productions are the primary production company for Unleashed, then yes France can be put as the country of origin.
