How do I know if a new dvd has already been contributed and just not accepted yet?

Might be a silly question. I did a search and rechecked the rules to see if it's pointed out somewhere, but didn't come across anything. If I just missed something, my apologies.

Yesterday, like probably 90% of the DVD buying world did, I bought The Dark Knight. Canadian Two-Disc Special Edition.

It's not in the system yet, doesn't pull up when trying to add by UPC (883929053254).

Want to add it, but along the lines of thinking "It's the Dark Knight, I'm sure a hundred different Canadians on the site have purchased it" how do I know someone hasn't already added it, and it's just waiting to be released?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks guys (and ladies too of course!)

You really don't know but Invelos will simply select a profile, so there's no harm in submitting.

It also occurs to me that I must be in the 10% since I haven't bothered to purchase this one.  Maybe next year when it starts showing up for 5 bucks.

Okay, that was an exaggeration on my part! It just seemed like everyone in both stores I was at yesterday was either standing in front of the film, or was carrying a copy of it in their hands.

Thanks for the answer!

Exactly what mdnitoil said but, just to add, this is where the advantage of pre-release submissions comes in.

If someone submits a profile pre-release, even a very basic one, then because that's accepted into the database a while before release and so long as it's in your wishlist (and you've uploeaded your collection, of course) when the release comes and everyone starts submitting you can see everyone's submissions and tell whether it's worth doing one yourself (and voting on the most complete and accurate one to make sure that's the baseline).

This doesn't help in this situation but might help in future if you do a simple pre-release profile yourself and submit (about 3 minutes work in my experience) as I try to do for 'big' upcoming UK R2 releases.

I've found that Canadian UPC info can be kind of a pain in the butt to find in advance.

I know a few sites like Future Shop have them up a little bit in advance, but I also found from my time at DVDSpot, that those UPCs can also be wrong (only happened on a few occasions, but it throws doubt onto the entire situation for me).

If I could find a site (or if anyone knows of one) that has some really concrete pre-release info for Canadian dvd's, I'd be more than happy to submit a pre-release profile. I still have a list of about 30 or so DVD's that aren't in the system yet that I'm working my way through and adding, and I was fairly shocked at some of the big movie titles that hadn't made their way into the system yet.

If the locality (like: Canadian) and UPC are truly unknown yet to the database, any FIRST contribution usually gets a fast track approval and release. Sometimes minutes, sometimes a few hours, in my experience.

Only AFTER the first contribution has been approved, added and released, any subsequent contribution goes through the approval mechanism. Normally about 2 days, but with the 3.1 => 3.5 deluge of additional contributions still there a bit longer at present.

If the first contribution is a bit bare bones, many are queing up on release day to add data in contributions, some good, some careless and not-so-good. If you have a copy, you may want to keep an eye the first couple of days on contributions. Upload your collection to get access to the title in question through the site menu or click on "view contributions" => "view contribution notes" in your local application.

I think the reason a lot of these are missing is because many folks just use the U.S. version of the profile.  It would be great if proper Canadian profiles were created.

This is how I check to see if a new release is still pending or not.
I can't check cos I'm at work but I'm pretty sure all I do is add the new profile using the UPC or ID, then before I start adding any of the detailed info I use those links cos even if the submission hasn't been accepted yet, you can still see the notes even for new entries. I think so anyway.

Thanks northbloke. Found this contribution.

Initial URL is http://www.invelos.com/Forums.aspx?task=contributionnotes&type=DVD&ProfileUPC=883929053254.3

I believe the .3 means it is Canadian. .4 for UK and none for the US.

also keep in mind that USA contributions and profilers are ten times (and higher) over Canadian profilers., then take into effect that out of those left of Canadian profilers they  may just upload the USA location with same upc code., So that now puts it into new prospective area of sitting back and waiting for others,(like your self) to contribute said exact title into data base.

I noticed this as well. Last week I contributed a Canadian profile for The X-Files: I Want to Believe that wasn't in the system yet, within 20 minutes it had been approved and within an hour or so it had been released

That's pefect! That's what I had done and at the time, there were no contribution notes for it, so I figured it hadn't even been submitted yet. It's been a busy couple of days, so I never had the chance to actually add the DVD, but I see in that time, as pointed out here, 88kleyz did an excellent job of entering the disc into the system (entry completely filled out and all info looks to be correct, which is very nice!).

I'll keep all this in mind for the future.

Thanks again guys, much appreciated!
