Gridlock Joe has contributed covers for the HBO release of Get Smart: The Complete Series [883929-028504], released on 11/04/08. His covers are much better than what is online, since Joe took scanned them out of the shrink-wrap.  My problem is with both of them, the existing and Joe's: they aren't the same as the ones on my copy of this set.

I bought my copy (same UPC as Joe's) at Best Buy on 11/6/08 -- 2 days after it was released.  The outside covers on my copy are the same as the ones from the older Time-Life set:  A black and white photo of Don Adams with only the words AGENT 86 in the lower left corner of the box.  Both front and back covers are identical on my copy.

The individual season covers on my set are the same as the ones from the Time-Life version, too, except that the Time-Life logos are gone, and there are no UPC barcodes on any of them.

Does anyone else have the HBO Release of Get Smart: The Complete Series [883929-028504] with the same covers as I did -- or did I get some sort of non-standard edition from Best Buy?  Or maybe a non-USA locality?

This is really confusing.  Actually, I prefer the covers that Joe is contributing to the plain, uninformative covers I have.

The mystery deepens.  I checked a number of websites (Deep Discount, Amazon, Overstock, CD Universe, Barnes & Noble, and DVD Empire) and they all show the same front cover as I have.  Except for DVD Empire, these vendors show the front of the box beside a row of the Season boxes (like from a pre-release or promotional flyer).  DVD Empire shows the front cover I have but the back cover Joe (and the existing profile) has.

Or maybe this is it:  My cover scans are the front and back covers and the online ones (& Joes) are the left and right side of the box.  It's a square box so this is certainly possible, and it looks like the front cover in the database is from the open end of the box, not the side.

Sorry to ramble on, but this really has me baffled.

The Complete Series release Ken, was supposed to be identical in appearnce to the Time-Life which I own. I have seen nothing in print or on any store shelves which is any different from that understanding.
