Could we have a Condition on Watched?

Or add that as a Field in the report as the information is available. It helps when I want to select a movie I have not watched yet.

Thanks

Why don't you use filters? Personal > Watched Status = Not

Nodding head in total agreement. There is a lot of power in the tag system if users would only try it.

I agree that it would be nice to have that field available in the report generator. In fact, I don't understand why the fields have been limited. As far as I'm concerned every single data field should be available in the report generator. I can't think of a reason for why they haven't been.

For your particular purpose though, you can do what you want in a two step process:

1. Filter by Watched Status (per what Kulju said)
2. Run the report on the filtered items only

Although if you're only after generating a list to select an unwatched movie, and don't need an actual report, then obviously only step one is necessary.

We don't need tags for this. Filter is "built-in".

Thank you for the answers, but I am trying to have a complete list, with a mark for the movie I have not seen. Filtering (that I use to print some subset) is going only to show those movies, but it will not provide a complete list of all my movies.

Any idea how to accomplish this?

I am agreeing with Astrakan, where all data field should be available in the report.

Thanks

The only thing I can think of is to co-opt some other field. It'd be a big pain, and there's really no reason for why you should have to, but as it stands with the current report functionality I think it's your only option.

One field you could use is personal notes. I don't know if this is something you use, but if it isn't you could go through your collection and put an X or something in the personal notes for all movies you have not seen. Then when you watch one, remove the X.

Then for the report, you can just make the personal notes field small enough to only fit one letter.

I know this kind of workaround bites, but if you really want this functionality it's the only way I can think of.

(1) Make sure "Last Watched" is a visible column in the collection
(2) Sort the collection the way you want
(3) Now sort by "Last Watched". All the movies you haven't seen will be together either at the top or bottom of your list.
(4) Run your report. Knowing the dividing line, you now have your complete list, watched up top and un-watched on the bottom, or vice-versa.

Does that work?

Thanks all for the suggestions.

I do not mean being a pain, but:
- I already use the Personal Notes (with an X as suggested) for another purpose (DVDs I want to replace)
- Suggestion of Mediadogg: I am trying to keep ALL my movies sorted alphabetically, regardless of watched or not, so even though the solution is interesting, I loose a benefit.

Again, I appreciate the help.

You're welcome. Seems like it would be only a minor inconvenience to print two lists whle waiting for the desirable change to the program that you suggested. But that's just me - I don't mind a compromise when the alternative is to get nothing. Anyway, good luck.

Oh wait - what about creating a user called "Watched". When you watch a movie, just loan it out to "Watched" with a very long loan period. You can get "Loaned To" in a report. How about that!!!

Actually I think you could use this method to add any kind of single token to the output report for any purpose. Fake users and their transactions can be easily deleted when no longer needed.

Yes, tricky, but it should work

I have been fairly inventive to generate the reports as I want them, and this is a nice addition.

Let's hope that some day we can get access to all data in the reports. I am still looking for a way to know if a movie is a child of a parent, so I can change the format. Any other trick?

Thanks,

Kaput

Think I'm out of gas. Only other possibility would be to use DB Query Plugin to set flags as needed, for example, search for all profiles with parent profile not empty. Then use the "flagged" condition in the report to identify child profiles. Of course if you are already using condition = flagged for something else ...

Are you doing this so you can run reports of all your movies yet see which ones you want to replace? Or is there another reason? Because if it's not for reporting purposes you could use tags to keep track of movies you want to replace. If you're unfamiliar with tags, see the link in my signature for more info.

Just figured maybe you'd like to free up use of the Personal Notes field for something else.

Your first assumption is correct: Running a report with all my movies, and being able to see the ones I want to replace. Those movies have also a Tag "Replace" that I filter on if I want to have the list handy. But as the Tags cannot be used in Reports, I have to go through the work-around of the Personal Notes.
