There's a contribution for the Polar Express Blu-ray (US) currently up for voting where someone has voted no to the cast saying that ALL should have the voice checked even though not all of the people provided the voice & were ONLY used for motion capture. I'm sure that there must be other films where different actors are used for the voice to the one used for the motion capture. Although I can understand where he's coming from, I don't agree that it should be checked for everyone.

What I propose is to add another check box for motion capture in the same place as the voice option is. This should not be mutually exclusive from the voice box so where appropriate both can be selected for an actor/role.

Thoughts/comments?

I don't think there's enough motion capture work out there to justify a check-box, at least not yet. That's my take on it.

However, in the particular case of Polar Express - you can't tick the voice box if they didn't provide a voice.

Edit: Snark makes a good point: even though we can't see them physically, we are still watching their performance. That, to me, suggests that a normal credit with no boxes ticked is justified.

As well as movies like A Scanner Darkly and Appleseed, which use motion capture, there are also examples like A Shark Tale where the capture is of just the face, which confuses matters.

But the issue goes beyond motion capture too.  In The Dark Crystal you have puppeteer(s) doing motion, and either someone else or just one of those puppeteers providing the voice.  In this case, people have been appending "(movement)" or "(movement and voice)" to the roles.

Sounds good to me. Hadn't thought about that kind of motion.
