| | Posted: | | | | For printing in landscape I discovered a workaround:
I just designed a report template with the desired landscape page size (in my case a CD Booklet with 24x12 cm). Even if the preview does not show it correctly as the layout exceeds the standard portrait format, you can print it anyway by configuring your printer driver in combination with setting correct margins in the report designer.
If your printer driver does not support your "customization approach" or it's too difficult to produce the right output with it, I recommend printing to PDF first (e. g. with the open source PDF Creator from www.pdfforge.org - it's for free). The PDF Creator printer driver is featured with a custom page format entry.
If you decide to install and use it, then you simply select landscape format in the printer select/property popup window, go to the advanced driver properties and configure your own page format. Please be aware that you have to enter the dimensions for portrait format (e. g. to create a CD booklet: 120 mm width, 240 mm height). Sounds mysterious, but I tried the other way first and got funny results.
To set the margins in the report designer correctly, you have to calculate the difference between the dimensions of the selected standard paper format and your custom layout.
Example:
Standard A4 size: 21 cm width
your landscape layout: 24 cm width
difference: 3 cm or 1,181 inch
Then you enter 1,181 inch in the field for left margin. Do not ask me why but it works on my PC.
Maybe you have to play a little with the left margin until the layout correctly aligns with the left margin on preview.
If your custom format height is less than half of standard format height then you have to also edit the bottom margin. Otherwise the preview will show "2on1" and every second page is skipped in PDF output.
Example:
Standard A4 size: 29,7 cm height
your landscape layout: 12 cm height
difference 17,7 cm or 9,9685 inch
Then you enter a value slightly below 9,9685 inch in the field for bottom margin and the preview will show one entry per page. If you enter a bottom margin which is too big, an error message will appear.
That's it. |
