I thought it might be a good idea to have a list of available Child Profiles in the Forum's. Most of us veteran user's know that they are available but with a lot of new user's coming to the program now, a list of what is out there...and if need be a thread to advise on how to use them.

The child profiles need not be just for TV series as sometimes child profiles are contributed for box sets as well.

I have put this into the "Contribution Discussion" mainly because there is references to other child profiles here already.

Steve

PS. Please feel free to add to.

The following child profiles are available for download from the online DB as from today 16/10/2008.

These are R2 UK profiles so if you are cloning them for your own locality please remember to change the pieces that need changing before you re-submit them.

Sounds like a good idea. Might also be worth noting down the parent profile UPC/EAN/ID as well in case different re-releases for child profiles use different IDs (if that makes sense & if not just ignore me!  !!)

Edit: On reflection, my thoughts probably wouldn't work well!

Wouldn't it be easier to input the Parent, upload the collection and than to look in View/Edit Locks[1] whether childs are listed or not?

[1] I know, not the first place one would look, but it's there!

But the items you see in View/Edit Locks are only available to you if 1. you have uploaded your collection to the on-line. 2. you have profiles (Disc ID's) in your local that are (in this instance child profiles).

Whereas having a list in a thread like this allows people the option to look for and down load them if they so wish. A better option, (Future Feature maybe) would be when you input a EAN/UPC that is already in the online a pop-up lets you know that there are "Child Profiles as well" (<- idea here "The Ken"). Although as we know different EAN's / UPC's may not necessarily use the same Disc ID’s...so you would not be able to tie the two together.

Not quite sure if I understand you correct there.
e.g. I have the "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" Giftset with the UPC 794043561122.
Now if I look at the profil in View/Edit Locks I clearly see
Box Set Contents
794043-693229
IFDD32A75C7D905A2
even though I have neither of those two in my local profiler. Now I could go ahead and enter 794043-693229. This of course only works for UPC/EAN, with DiscIDs one is screwed anyway.

cya, Mithi

PS Of course the whole thing is a crutch and an automated download of fitting childprofiles (regardless if UPC or DiscID) would be better in the long run.

I don't want to rain on your parade, but don't you think it's a better idea simply to make it obvious to new users that there are such things as child profiles and how to add them, rather than listing many of them in detail?
I'm just thinking a list of child profiles could get very big and unwieldly very quickly.

Ummm...I have hundreds of child profiles in my collection, mainly because I buy a lot of box sets.  This thread will quickly get insane when you consider that double feature flippers (Midnight Movies) are also treated as box sets and have child profiles.

Ken really needs to consider a more elegant programatic solution if this is that much of a problem, rather than a rambling multi-page thread aimlessly listing child profiles.

Sorry Steve, but as sympathetic as your initiative is, I've got to agree with north and mdnitoil on this one. I'm afraid that if we were all to list our child profiles here, this thread would become completely unmanageable really quickly.

I have to agree also with North, I have 2,732 TV child profiles and 300 some box set child profiles. I think the list might be a little to long for a forum message.

Tho I am seriously thinking of deleting all the TV child profiles.

I think the idea is to have only TV series or simular of individual disc profiles that normaly are not contributed as not required with complete cast and crew for others to use this data of crew and cast in there profiles. Not to have all children posted here. And you would not post other region or localities either. Thinking 24, Startrek, Stargate, all those big series with the more then average amount of dvd's. As those are not so freqwent to be found, allso users do not expect to find those on line as the individual profiles are not required to be contributed. And if you want those information here is the place to get them, you could say there is on average a day's work in one tv series dvd. (all cast and crew by the credits, and you would be astonished how many are only up to IMdb specs). As I verify big dvd boxes you have to do all discs, so I do them by individual disc-profile, in the main profile it is nearly impossible to keep track on what your doing on an existing profile of a season box. As I have those profiles, why should i keep them to myselef, so i put them online and let others know those are there if others want to use them.

I did, just because my profiler was becoming unmanagable. In the case of TV shows the information "mostly" exists in the parent profile. Thats good enough for me!
