I have added two new releases, but some idiot has written "Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. Please include the sources for your changes in the contribution notes, especially for cast and crew additions." and declined them. As I said, they are brand new releases that were not in the database before, so how can there have been "changes and/or additions "

First : The "idiot" you are referring to is most likely Gerri Cole, so I would strongly suggest you tone down the attitude if you are expecting to get any help from the community.

Second : You need to source where you get your info - even with new contributions. If you do not properly source especially where you get the cast/crew info, and if you add uncredited cast without extensive sourcing, your new contribution will likely be declined.

Careful calling people Idiot's on here especiially when it's the Software and Website Owner's you are calling it.

The reason your contribution was declined is in the response. Whether it is a 1 minute old DVD or 100 year old DVD you are contributing all submissions have to have FULL Documentation, whether is is just for SRP or a full audit. Cast and crew will automatically be rejected if they have come from a Third Party DB. So please Read and Understand the RULES

There are tools available on the Net to verify things like Audio, Regions etc: IfoEdit is a good one for these two and is FREE.

The message you receive is a template message, which is why the wording is as it is.

As others have said, you need to provide sources for everything you submit to the database, even for brand new submissions.

You should definitely read through the submission rules that have been linked to, but a few quickie comments to get you started:

- The #1 source should be the DVD and/or the case, depending on the kind of information you submit.

- Information should come from the DVD whenever possible. In these cases, do not use IMDb or anything else you've found online. This includes credits. Those are collected by viewing the DVD and copying them from the screen. Then when you submit, simply state where you got the information.

- If the information can not be gotten from the DVD or the case, such as SRP, provide a URL in the submission notes for where you got the information.

All that said, a good starting point for a new profile is to check and see if that particular title is already available in a different region or locality, or maybe just a different UPC in your region and locality. You can check this by simply choosing to add by title, and selecting to view movies from all regions.

If the title you want to add exists as another profile, you can add that to your database and then follow these directions:

Entry on Cloning Profiles on DVDProfilerWiki.org

Note: You should still verify the information from the actual disc before you submit it. Also, when you submit a cloned profile, state which UPC you based your profile on.

Can your attitude. Read and follow the rules. And as has been noted you MUST provide sources for your data. You will find that we take a dim view of new idiots calling anyone else an idiot. You need to learn to crawl before you try walking or galloping.

Redracer,

I'd suggest you review the contribution rules carefully.  As the others have correctly stated, it's crucial to get the data correct the first time.  I consider my self a relative newcomer, but learned early on to try to do it right and now most of my contributions go smoothly.  So once again, review the rules and also follow this forum as it really helps you fill in the grey areas that can sometimes be befuddling.  Lastly, you can always PM another member, they always seem happy to share their experience with you.

This is not quite correct. For many (if not all relatively new) TV-series the only source for properly spelled role names for the cast is the official web site (or possibly an official printed companion if it is a really big hit). The DVDs decides cast names and ordering, but the role names have to be from an external, usually online, source.

(Obviously the series creators have the scripts with this information but nobody buying the DVDs will normally have access to those)

Yes, I (and you) know that. Not many others as far as I can tell from the negative contribution comments I have seen.

If you are getting negative comments for these contributions, it can help to include that section of the rules in your notes.
No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.
There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom.
Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.
The Centauri learned this lesson once.
We will teach it to them again.
Though it take a thousand years, we will be free.

@ redracer:

To get new contributions accepted (as well as updates of existing profiles) it is important to use the correct data AND to document in your contribution notes what you have done.

To help you along, here are the contribution notes I used for a recent new contribution by myself that got accepted without problems.

New contribution. Almost all data from disc. Cast and Crew Credits from the film's end credits. Running time (total: 54:03), video format, audio track and subtitles verified using PowerDVD. Region and layer info verified using DVDInfoPro. Release date and SRP from bol.com.

Good luck!
