Hi,
the problem of contribution notes being cut short on the voting page is well known and been discussed many times, but I've just noticed something I'm sure hasn't been mentioned before:
I've just gone in to edit a note that was too long for the voting page, but after I'd submitted the change I noticed that the note had actually been cut short, the extra stuff you wouldn't get to see on the voting page had now been removed completely. Has anyone else noticed this?

Why do you repeat the complete contribution in the notes? It's redundant and leaving it out would shorten the notes

Also, Geri made a plea for contributors to try and make as short contribution notes as possible.

How will you document all changes made?

This seems to work for me...;

Improved Cover Scans. Existing ones are washed out and blurry and also too bright.

Capitalization correction to Title.

CoO added. Production Year corrected.

SRP and release verified from www.cdon.com

Studios as credited (visually verified).

Features updated. Verified from DVD Menu.

Overview corrected to match back cover.

Disc ID added (layers verified using DVDInfo Pro).

Cast and Crew as credited. Visually verified from Film's credits.

I agree with Schizzzo - no need to repeat all the changes you did specifically, that is indicated when viewing the profile changes, so repeating it in the contribution notes seems redundant indeed.

Your notes could be condensed to:

Cast & Crew taken from end credits, removed entries not found

with this massive change nobody would figure out what happend in the credits: a lot of name changes, people removed, name switching, a lot of voters scrutinize contributions. I find it normal to document what you do in a profile, it got even several .

But the changes you've made can be seen by clicking on "Evaluate". All I write in the notes is a global description what I've done (e.g. edited cast and crew as credited) and the sources if they differ from the credits (e.g. role descriptors if there are none in the credits).

Example:

* Corrected studios (from written film credits)
* Completed features
* Added episode list to overview (numbering as on cover)
* Crew&cast from credits, using dividers for each episode (numbering as on cover, named as in credits)
-- Only some actors are credited with role descriptors, sources for the rest:
--- http://www.thelogbook.com/logbook/series/lexx/page/3/
--- http://www.thelogbook.com/logbook/series/lexx/page/4/
--- http://www.sadgeezer.com/review?page=73
--- http://www.sadgeezer.com/review?page=74
-- Common names determined with CLT (and verified)
* New cover scans (higher resolution, less compression artefacts, cleaned from scratches, less moirée effects)

If there are reasonable no-votes you can update the notes with detailed explanations

I believe we are supposed to document the *source* of the changes. The changes themselves can be seen by clicking on Evaluate, as Schizzo said.

But as others have said - when you press evaluate you see all the changes with names (name changes, names removed etc).

I guess you got the ticks for making the contribution - not for the notes..

Once contributed, all changes are lost and you can start allover again. If another contributer comes along he/she can check what went on, if you have the short notice, you don't have a clue.

It would be nice to have the possibility to show the history of previous changes even after evaluation time.

Yep, maybe as a link in the appropriate profile likewise to the contributor info!
