Quite often, when doing a submission or when comparing my local profile with the one in the master database, I notice that there are capitalization differences in the studios. E.g. I wanted to do a submission and the submission webpage not only showed my own changes but also that PolyGram was changed into Polygram.
I however never edit/change studios, so these changes must come from elsewhere. I suspect that whenever I download an updated profile, that the spelling from that profile is stored locally and all other profiles with that same studio get the new spelling. So in this example, I probably some time ago downloaded a profile that had "Polygram" resulting in all profiles with this studio getting a small G, even when the online profiles still have PolyGram with capital G.
If this is indeed how it works, this seems to be quite a mess, since spellings will constantly move back and forth.

In fact, I wonder if this is also the way how it works with birthyears and capitalization of actors, since also there I've seen my own submissions include changes to actors that I'm sure I did not write. So I assume they crept into my local database via downloading another profile with the same actor spelled differently or having a different or no birthyear.

They may have, repter. But there is no Hollywood standard here. Sometimes it is PolyGRam, sometimes Polygram, same with TriStar, at some point in their corparate life they changed to Tristar.

I don't know if something odd has gone on with the capitalisation of data in the program, as I've noticed a lot of cast names getting changed (Del instead of del, Macintosh instead of MacIntosh etc.) and I'm positive I never allowed these changes through.
I'm wondering if one of the betas has done something that caused some of the data to default to standard capitalisation.

Capitaliztion changes do not affect your local database. For example, if you have Benicio Del Toro in your database and I submit a profile change to Benicio del Toro and its approved, your local profile will remain Benico Del Toro.

Ok, but if you then submit a different change in that same profile, the cast change will be marked for submission as well due to the difference between Del and del.

Yes, capitalization changes for cast & crew are ignored when accepting updates.

But capitalization changes in Studio names will take effect. And not only while accepting updates, but also when *adding* a new profile that has the studio capitalized differently.

True. Unless you manually change your local profile to del then a subsequent submission of that profile will, in affect, change Del to del again. Ping Pong anyone?
