I was starting to profile a Three Stooges disc and find that the majority of them only credit the 3 Stooges at the beginning.

There are quite a few actors who appear in each of these shorts, but it would be required to list them as being uncredited.

My question is, since they are not listed in the credits is it ok to use websites that lists at least a few of the actors who appear in the shorts?

2nd. question, does anyone know of any good sites that could be of any help in profiling the actors?

Many online movie databases are notorious for adding false information on the belief that this aids in copyright infringement lawsuits. I would suggest that unless more than three online film credit databases agree on a credit, it ought to be treated with suspicion.

There are many fine reference books on the Three Stooges shorts, many of which are quite accurate (including photos) at identifying supporting actors in these films.

Make sure you document all sources for any uncredited cast members you wish to contribute.

BTW, imdb is a forbidden source... contained in the contribution rules. Personally, I find the All-Movie Guide a more somewhat more accurate source, but there are many here who disagree with this assessment. Even I have found a few inaccuracies in AMG's data on films where I worked.
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

There are quite a few Three Stooges books that list uncredited cast.  Those are within the limits of what you can use as a resource.

I would urge caution. Many of the people involved were well-known though perhaps more by face than by name. I know I am demanding but, this is what I would do, I would take a a given credit and then try to find something else he/she was credited so I could do a screen cap comparison. Once I was satisified i would use the Credit from the film he/she is actually credited in as the model for the Stooge short.

I was thinking of using these sites.

I found it's very easy to do the crew as they are listed in the credits. I would hate to just have dividers with just the 3 stooges listed as the cast for each short.

While there are a lot of uncredited actors in Stooges shorts, the same ones tend to crop up over and over (Bud Jamison, Vernon Dent), and they're easily recognizable.  The trickier ones are when there are three dames cast opposite them who look like generic 40s starlets.

What should the title be on this? On the previous volumes it was contributed as "The Three Stooges Collection: Years: Volume." The title design has not changed at all, except for the picture and color on the left side. Until I decided to submit a change to match the previous contributions the title was The Three Stooges Collection: Volume: Years," there was no problem. So what should the title be?

We're on a mission from God.

I understand that you're simply making the title match the previous two volumes and that's fine with me.  If folks have a huge problem with this, then the previous two volumes need to be corrected as they all have their titles presented this way.

Whichever it is, we should probably take care of it now as there are a projected total of 9 volumes.  Heck, I think volume 4 is due out within the next 2 months.

Sorry Cliff but this just isn't true. The only mention of IMDb in the rules is in the Credits section where it says:
Quote:
Do NOT use IMDb style Roman Numerals to distinguish between crew members or actors using the same name

IMDb specifically is no more forbidden than any other 3rd party database.

Rick:

I fear your comment is less than concise.  The target of the rule was edfinitively IMDb, however we were also painfully aware of other such databases, some of whom also used data from IMDb. We had images in mind of users saying you said IMDb, so I can use TCMDB or AMG,...whatever, so the rule simply became NO THIRD PARTY DATABASES at all, period, exclamation point. I don't understand why this even was question. I trust that no one is going to try and claim that the rule is unclear.

Ken has made it perfectly clear in the forums that scraping Cast & Crew data from IMDb is strictly prohibited. I would assume that this would apply to any 3rd party site that may also have terms of use agreements.

Agree - as is scraping from ANY 3rd party db. My point was it is not just IMDb that isn't allowed. Even if a db is "more accurate" it is still not allowed.

I was simply addressing the singling out of IMDb as an unaccepted source. All 3rd party dbs are unacceptable. I guess I wasn't clear.
