A nice addition to the forum would be a spoiler tag.
A tag Spoiler:  (Select to view)
Text
would hide the text similar to the "Show/Hide Votes" on the evaluation page, like it is used on a lot of other forums.

This post has been hidden. Oh and I do agree with this. It would be much easier to hide the text with a spoiler tag.

I didn't say it was bad, I just commented that this will most probably happen.  That said, although I know many forums have this feature I never liked it, when I read a thread I don't want to have to click 20 times to be able to read the whole thing, especially if the hidden parts turn out to be worthless.

However I think you're idea could be used by the forum to automatically hide the embedded quotes in messages. I hate those threads where everybody keeps quoting the previous message, they become almost unreadeable.  If only the "outer" quote was showed and all the inner ones were hidden, that would make the threads much shorter.

I personally like the idea. I am usually behind on getting to watch movies or TV Shows... and I love to be able to read a thread and not be as worried about spoilers.

That is what the spoiler tag is for and I would like it also for the same reasons.

Sometimes I think people leave ALL the quotes in just to see how many layers of quotes they can include before the text becomes totally unreadable.

I'll second your "outer quote" display idea.  Works for me.

When this was done on purpose at the old IVS forum, it was fun. The second time, less so.

Now they seem to get two, three deep and then they pass away, so, generally it's not so bad.

To me, a "Spoiler" tag needs to be used only when it is a genuine spoiler -- giving away plot points on TV shows, movies, etc., prior to the show airing, the film released... Once the show has aired (anywhere), the film released (anywhere), all plot points are discussable without a Spoiler warning.

For example:

***** SPOILER AHEAD *****

In an episode of The Sopranos, they filmed a scene where the closeted gay member of Tony's crew rapes Meadow's boyfriend. By writing this before the episode in which it happened (it was not included in any show), it would need to be placed in a warning so those of us (not me, I like spoilers) who do not like spoilers could skip it.

***** END SPOILER *****

Which would work better if the blockquote background was true white...
(Note to Ken: what are the color codes for the pretty blue backgrounds and the Blockquote background?)

So it's easy to avoid seeing a spoiler, yet those of us who like 'em can look in.

Do we really need a tag for this? Or just a little courtesy?
If it wasn't for bad taste, I wouldn't have no taste at all.

If you mean do we need to actually hide the spoiler text or can we just leave it open to see?

Then yes, I think spoiler text should actually be hidden..

I understand the idea behind the spoiler tag and I like it.  I just wonder how much of it will be for true spoiler.
