SHEESH!!!!!!!!! Waht you people won't say or do to tryt to invalidate the Rules.

No, I want to make it more clear.

Next we'll see something like "Some film company presents a film" because the rule isn't clear, that the Title is on the same screen, visible at once.

It figures that you avoid the question...

I'll entertain this thought of yours for just one second.  Show me a screenshot from the movie with the title you claim is correct.  If you can, I'll gladly agree with you.  This should be pretty darn simple, you claim this is the actual title, prove it.  We all know I can demonstrate a screenshot that only says "The Birds" as that's what's in the credits.

It's not rocket science, people.  Just pull out your copies and look.  The proof is staring you in the face if you just take the time to investigate.  If you have The Birds, then odds are you have Vertigo, Rear Window, etc.  Check those as well.  It took me a whopping 5 minutes to confirm what I'm talking about.  Let's see you guys actually back up this fictitious title you've invented.

Fact of the matter is we don't have to provide you with anything. The proof is in the credits. Your failure to see it does not constitute error on our part.

Shoot, I need to get your version then because mine doesn't have what you describe in it.  Here, let me show you.

Mdnitoil,

Is this screencap from the credits of your DVD with UPC 025192027529? (The one in your online collection).

I've got to say, skip, what you envision as a malicious attempt to bend the rules, is an attempt to actually enforce them, in my view.

This director has an entire body of work, the majority of which is credited as we have described.  Yet, in all the profiles for all the Hitchcock movies in the entire online, this is the only profile that is listed this way.  Clearly, something is wrong.  Possibly with the hundreds of other profiles, or maybe, just maybe with this one profile.

The fact that you see this as some kind of organized attempt to demolish the rules is really kind of...odd.

Apologies.  Yes, this screenshot is from the release in my collection.  Frankly, it's the only version of this movie I have.

You aren't trying to enforce them. You ARE in FACT trying to bend them to YOU will. The film provides the answers, and the On Screen happens to agree with the data on the Cover in every RESPECT, front back and anywhere else. It's NOIT as you want it to be so you are trying to take it apart...simple.

Fine if you say the rules are clear and we use what is on screen - then how about we retitle the film:

"Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds From the Story by Daphne du Maurier"

That is after all what we see on screen. If we accept that what is on the previous screen is valid, then you must also accept that what is on the same screen is also valid.

And Dan W, the title card is what is on screen, I'm not talking about a physical piece of card

Mmmm,

That settles it for me. The current title is wrong and according to the rules must be changed.

This is exactly the kind of crap that has led to me to STOP Contributing. My data is MY data, the ONLY thing I am willing to Conntribute is NEW release data.  It doesn't make me happy, but I am fed up with the likes of Lopek and his minions, that aree willing to allow users to vioalte the Rules whist they CLAIM to back them, which is a blatant LIE.

I agree with this logic... you beat me to posting it.

You can't have it both ways imo.

A title sequence (that's what it is) can IMHO consist of more than just the movies name, but common sense tells me that it is exactly that what we should use.

Well I agree with dan, I don't call what you are doing to be backed by any logic other than a twisted form of it and shenanigans sounds appropriate. Why do i call your logic twisted? Because you have not been trying to support the Rules, you have continually been trying to TWIST the Rule to YOUR definition, despite any and everything else that might have any relevance, that does not include personal opinion, AFI, or any other outside datasource. Now ask me if I like it necessarily...that answer is NO...there are many times when I don't like what the Rules say to do....so what...I have a choice, I can follow the Rules and Contribute the data, once that is done I can then do whatever I might want to with the data. Personally, I think the title of The Birds is The Indians (being totally facetious), but I COULD certainly do that locally if I wish.

Yes, it says Alfred Hictchcock's The Birds over TWO consecutive title screens due to the way Hicth chose to present it. If that is not enough for you, take that information, and what does it say on the Front Cover...still not enough for you what does it say on the back cover or do I need to provide screenshots for you. The title is CORRECT.
