Because people will contribute that data to the database and we don't want it neither does Ken (like it or not we don't use anything else than the film credits themselves).

Because it will cost everyone else actual money if Ken did it.

One other note, original poster asked "....Therefore I would like to have an option that make it possible to import the data from an other online source as for example IMDB." Why anyone should care, or deny someone else this option is beyond me.

Who is denying anybody that option?  If someone wants to import that data, there is a plugin that does just that and, from what I hear, it does it quite well.  If someone can't be bothered to use it, well, that's on them.

Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand.

I started out doing minor corrections to profiles. Once I understood what and how to use the program & CLT, I started doing full cast & crew. Lately I've been doing common name thread corrections in the database (not limited to just my region) making sure that the credited name is correct and adding the common name (Luis Guzman, what a pain. One of the few names I decided to work on.) So sometimes I may be just changing 1 name in a profile and adding any confirmed BY if they are missing. It has slowed down my viewing and correcting of my own DVD's.

I just didn't see a point of having a common name thread with confirmed name credits and no changes to existing profiles being done.

Hmm, that's not what I get from the op ....

"....Therefore I would like to have an option that make it possible to import the data from an other online source as for example IMDB."

my understanding is he wants the option to be able to import data from an online sourse, as for example, IMDB, to his local profile/machine....NOT to the Invelos database....thus why would anyone care if such an option was to be made available. You use it or you don't.

Because many of those people would probably try and upload it to the online database.

While I appreciate your work, I don't see the point.  I't s like putting a band aid on a gun shot wound.

Yes, but what's to stop them from doing so now?

The same guidelines/rules/criteria/whatever for submitted data would still apply.

Sometimes it still slips through.  There is also the liability issue.  Also it has been mentioned before there is a plug-in that supposedly works well.

I don't want to disrespect you, but I think we know what the users want when we are around since 6 years or more (certainly more than someone who is here for a little bit more than 1 months).

As other have said you can use a plugin to do so if you want garbage in your profiles, but don't expect to see that add to DVDP. Ken had said no many times and no serious long time users want to see DVDP turn as an imdb clone. DVDP is a DVD profiler not a film profiler, you want a film profiler just start your web browser and create an account at imdb. It's free and you can create a list of your DVD there, sound like a perfect solution for lazy people.

I totally disagree. Dvdprofiler is perfect for a movie collector, as soon as you use a correct database for cast and crew (with DJ Doena's plugin for example). Perhaps Ken has designed dvdprofiler for DVDs, but in this case the design is very poor for DVDs that do not contain movies : data, music, games, GPS... But dvdprofiler is perfect to profile movies, and it allows to do many things that are not possible with an IMDb account : sort and filter on your own collection, add headshots you prefer, use gallery images you want, personalize your covers as you want.

This is how I rate dvdprofiler and IMDb :

dvdprofiler as a program : 9/10
Invelos database : 1/10
IMDb "program" with account : 0/10
IMDb database : 8/10

dvdprofiler with IMDb datase is the best choice, by far.

I do not contribute to the so-called Invelos "database", nor do I use it...so, one thing offsets the other. Since I don't use it, I am not "whinning" about it, just stating my opinion, as a paid member, same as everyone else.
I like DVDP the program/software, but to me, the "database" is a joke.... I've seen enough to be convinced it is inept.

"so-called", "joke", this is exactly what I mean by whining about the quality of db  If you think it's joke, why don't you help to make it better? I agree that the Cast & Crew portion of the db (and program is horrible), but you've probably noted that there are several other fields for DVD/Blu-ray/HD DVD collectors that they may find interesting and those areas have no problems. Tell me one better and more accurate db about DVD/Blu-ray/HD DVD specs, since that's what this db is about primarily. I feel it very strange that people think that online db sucks just because Cast & Crew section is bad.

Can you tell me how IMDB's db perform in following sections:

- DVD/Blu-ray/HD DVD Regions
- DVD/Blu-ray/HD DVD Release Date
- DVD/Blu-ray/HD DVD Running Time
- DVD/Blu-ray/HD DVD Case Type
- DVD/Blu-ray/HD DVD SRP
- DVD/Blu-ray/HD DVD Rating
- DVD/Blu-ray/HD DVD Rating Details
- DVD/Blu-ray/HD DVD Media Companies
- DVD/Blu-ray/HD DVD Features
- DVD/Blu-ray/HD DVD Formats
- DVD/Blu-ray/HD DVD Audio Tracks
- DVD/Blu-ray/HD DVD Subtitles
- DVD/Blu-ray/HD DVD Overview
- DVD/Blu-ray/HD DVD Easter Eggs
- DVD/Blu-ray/HD DVD Disc Info
- DVD/Blu-ray/HD DVD Cover Scans

Maybe some day some users understand they are comparing oranges and apples and it doesn't make any sense.

If you had read carefully my post, you should have seen that I was speaking of cast and crew. In fact, about the fields you mention, most of them are very quick and simple to fill, except overviews  and cover scans. But for both of them, Invelos database is also very poor (decision to reproduce spelling mistakes in overviews, and online scans are rarely what we have in hand).
