Not just for known names. A very simple filter could standardize ALL mixed capitalization when a name is contributed. Please note the standardized common name doesn't need to use the actual most common capitalization, but just a standard to avoid data splintering, while the actual Credited As name stays intact. For instance: LeVar would become (after the filter) Levar [LeVar] DeVito => Devito [DeVito] Generally speaking: XxxYyyy => Xxxyyyy [XxxYyyy] | | | -- Enry | | | Last edited: by White Pongo, Jr. |

Generally speaking:
XxxYyyy => Xxxyyyy [XxxYyyy] I don't see any need for this. The whole purpose of the "Common Name"/"Credited As" system was to allow linking of all profiles for an individual actor regardless of how they are credited in the film. "LeVar" and "Levar" are already linked, as are "DeVito" and "Devito". Nothing more needs to be done to make the program function as designed. | | | Hal |

| Posted: | | | | I just realized this filter should cut the number of variants for Tommy "Tiny" Lister Jr. in half. Let me see: Number of Lister name variants = InfinityInfinity / 2 = Aw Crap! | | | Bad movie? You're soaking in it! |

| Posted: | | | | If I have common name = "DeVito" in a profile I am going to contribute, but the online cast has "Devito" (or vice versa), the system considers that a change to the profile. I would like the contribution system to understand they are the same and just automatically choose a standard capitalization, and leave the different variant as Credited As.
Ditto Mackenzie Lawrenz / MacKenzie Lawrenz. | | | -- Enry | | | Last edited: by White Pongo, Jr. |

Ditto Mackenzie Lawrenz / MacKenzie Lawrenz. Enry the Online would consider that a change. Your local does NOT recognize the difference in case type V=v Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

| Posted: | | | | Yet, for the same movie, The Virgin Suicides, and most likely same credits for poor ol' Danny, we have three ways of contributing them to the main database and three ways of storing his last name in the database. Isn't that a tad confusing and unnecessary complication? You can find, for instance, Danny Devito as Dr. Horniker UPC: 8-711983-452046 Locality: Belgium and Danny DeVito as Dr. Horniker UPC: 8-711983-452046 Locality: Netherlands and Danny DeVito [Danny Devito] as Dr. Horniker UPC: 5-706102-353963 Locality: Denmark | | | -- Enry |

| Posted: | | | | There's more. The program "links" locally, as you say, Devito and DeVito by changing capitals to the form it already finds in other local profiles. This has a cost though. Let's say you have movies with "DeVito", then you buy a movie where he is credited as "Devito" and you want to get that profile from the online. If the online profile just has "Danny Devito", then DVD Profiler will silently change that credit to just "Danny DeVito", which is not the way he was credited. Correct me if I am wrong. | | | -- Enry | | | Last edited: by White Pongo, Jr. |
