FWIW, I never said I agreed with Mark. I agreed he had a valid point is all. I was willing to drop it at that

I still feel any contributor who choses not to contribute is a loss to Invelos.

Not only is it a loss to Invelos, but it is yet another voice out there, in other forums, saying "I tried to contribute there but they are way too strict". Anyone who has looked at other forums or looked for other similar software knows that there is a percent of people out there who will not join here because we are too strict. There are also those who use the program but do not and will not contribute for the same reasons.

At some point that will effect the bottom line for Invelos. As Ken stated, there is a fine balance between accuracy and ease of use. Today the scale just clicked another notch toward accuracy being more important than ease of use.

You always claim to see the "bigger picture". Guess not this time.

FWIW I fully agree with you. I just hope that Ken and Gerri exercise more discretion when it comes to reviewing the profiles and the reason for the no votes.

Since you want to open this, I agree, Ken and Gerri do need to pay attention to notes. Right now we have user making an attempt at a fundamental change in the way we have ALWAYS done titles. A change that, if accepted and NOT corrected will affect hundreds, if not thousands of titles. So far I am the lone No vote and I will fix the damage immediately. It is a change that flies in the face of the way things have been done going back to the birth of program, it's not that theoretically the user is correct, but I don't believe he recognizes the wide-ranging impact it has, or if he does then he joins the ranks of some other users in putting their imprimatur on the Db.

Without giving away who and what

it involves our use of the colon in titles

For example Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, looking at the cover and the film credits its Star Tre VI The Undiscovered Country, except for the back cover.

I completely agree Rick.

I don't agree with CubbyUps reaction, but I think we have all been frustrated with declined contributions in our time.

Maybe he would have calmed down if people had been supportive, and the community would have gained a good contributer - but we'll never know as most people decided to laugh and scream good riddance. Sad

I don't get involved in the forums too much and only contribute occasionally.  There was one incident where I was correcting something, and it caused a big ruckus (minor differences of opinion in how things should be displayed).  I felt like I never wanted to contribute again because of how out of control it seemed to get.

But you know what?  I like that we have differences of opinion and will talk things out and come to compromises.  I certainly have learned a lot in what to do and not do and know that mistakes happen.  It is the willingness to fix those mistakes and take all no votes as constructive crisicism that helps you go far.

Yes, there is a fine line between detailed and nitpicky, but the main thing is how we phrase our objections and how we take it when we are rejected.  The unfortunate thing about the net is that it is hard to show intent in when we type.  I do think having more people contributing is great, however even I have to agree that the original poster didn't take things as constructively as they could be taken.

Reading this post, you'd think he was setting off a nuclear bomb.
"I am Andrew Ryan and I am here to ask you a question:
Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his own brow?

No, says the man in Washington. It belongs to the poor.
No, says the man in the Vatican. It belongs to God.
No, says the man in Moscow. It belongs to everyone.

I rejected those answers. Instead, I chose something
different. I chose the impossible. I chose…
Rapture."

No idea who you aimed this at but this is exactly my point about Ken and Gerri's discretion. I would hope you have put a reasonable explanation that this is against the rules, and that Ken or Gerri would be aware of this. (Albeit Gerri has stated she is a bit rusty)

Don't get me started on the use of :, these are used when they are inappropriate, i.e. when it is not a series and the title does not designate one.

I can't speak for others, but I can speak for myself.  I stayed out of things (since I don't own the titles in question).  It was only after he refused to make a few small edits and started acting like a big baby that I jumped in.

I'm all for taking any help we can get.  I'm fine with people making mistakes.  I'm fine with people making contributions and skipping the parts where they're not comfortable.  I'm not fine with people intentionally contributing bad data and not caring.  Next time we might not have someone as sharp as Pete around to catch the error.

Thanks Mark... I agree...

I would even go as far as saying he didn't intentionally contribute the bad data... I would hope it wasn't intentional at all.

but it should never went as far as it did....

He could have chose to say thanks for the info and make the corrections... or even said... my bad... will fix... I don't care if he says thank you or happy funtime You.

He could have even said... oh well... I don't want to go back and fix the data... so let your no vote stand... if it goes through fine... if it don't that is fine too.

either way I would have said fine... no problem.

but what he decided to do is cry foul... and said I had to  vote yes for his contribution because it was good enough in his eyes.... and call me to nitpicky and anal retentive. and if that isn't bad enough he decides to bring it to the forum to cry foul even more.

So in my opinion he had the choice to do whatever he wanted to do about the info and it would have been over... but he chose to make a big deal out of a small matter.

I would like to apologize to everyone on this board.

I had an extremely bad day yesterday (personal stuff) and I was in a very bad mood because of it.

I took the NO votes very personally, as an insult to all of my hard work. I got upset and blew my top.

Yes, I overreacted and looking back I was wrong to take it out on you guys.

I sincerely hope that you can forgive me for my behavior. I am truely sorry.

Good to hear that, and for what it's worth, I would like to apologize to you for the amount of sarcasm and cyninism I put in my earlier posting as well
