Are you still talking about Profiler or about Battlestar Galactica? No, seriously, I'll stay here, too. All other alternatives are really nothing I enjoyed, and even when Invelos should go down, I'll continue to use it locally. |

| Posted: | | | | I personally have no plans on switching away from DVDP as long as it continues to do what it's been doing since the beginning. That said, I also don't want to switch to another application because it stops working.
I sincerely hope that the lack of posts/updates isn't due to health or monetary reasons. |

| Posted: | | | | If at some point the online database is no longer available I won't lose any sleep. I'm fully capable of adding a given title from scratch locally and from day one I've backed up my local database in the event I ever need to perform a restore. I also host my own DVD Profiler based websites, so that base is covered as well. | | | My DVD/Blu-ray Collection |

| Posted: | | | | Some of you are really acting like drama queens, this program has cost almost nothing, you will be able to enter and catalogue your DVD/Blu-ray titles till the end of time, only thing that can happen is that the online database vanishes at some point.
I will of course continue to stay here, use the database and contribute from time to time .) | | | www.tvmaze.com |

Yeah, unless Microsoft does something stupid that makes the program unusable if it is not updated. It's not like something like that hasn't happened before ... | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. Gunnar |

Sure, we can manually enter the information but the probable reason the vast majority of the people who purchased the app did so expecting to only enter the UPC and then get all the juicy information. That's why I purchased DVDP. I wouldn't have purchased DVDP if I had to manually enter all the data, search online for the cover (or scan it myself), etc. In the end, DVDP is a product that I utilize for a specific function. If it can't do that function that I purchased it to do, I'll move to something that can. It's nothing personal. |

But I think a bunch of us are lamenting, "there ain't nothin' else" If you don't mind sharing, if you had to, what would you use? | | | Thanks for your support. Free Plugins available here. If you don't mind sharing, if you had to, what would you use? No idea. DVDP is still working so I haven't gone down that route yet. I'd probably just use my file server & Plex since I rip all my movies & TV series for it and I no longer lend out discs because those I would lend to have access to my Plex server. Plex has an unwatched indicator and I have a viewing history though the successor to PlexPy (whatever it's called). Plex gives cover views, some cast, descriptions, etc. It's not as detailed as DVDP but it does enough. | | | Last edited: by Dr. Killpatient |

| Posted: | | | | I will keep using this, even if the worst happens. What other offerings have an API that allows users to create their own plugins?
So if for some reasons out of Ken's control, this folds at least I can still use the program and add profiles from scratch. |

So if for some reasons out of Ken's control, this folds at least I can still use the program and add profiles from scratch. Sure one could do that and if worse happens that's what I'll do too. However, it would be much easier if we could still share profiles with each other via some other website/forum. |

| Posted: | | | | Albeit crude, it is possible to share profiles without the online database. Just this evening I shared my local profiles for the "24: The Complete Series" Blu-ray box set courtesy of Fox Japan. I just flagged the 60 profiles in question, backed up the flagged entries only, then uploading the resulting file to my web space so my friend could download it. She downloaded the file, unzipped it, then performed a restore merging the profiles with her existing database.
And why didn't I just contribute the profiles, so they were available for all to download? I didn't contribute them, because they don't meet the contribution guidelines and I had better things to do with my life at the time than build the profiles initially for contribution, then updating each and every one as I saw fit after the fact for my own purposes locally. | | | My DVD/Blu-ray Collection | | | Last edited: by Lowpro |

| Posted: | | | | Backup is one way of sharing profiles. But if you just want to share single profiles, there is another, rather unsung, method.
Use File / Create Profile File to create a profile file from the selected profile. Then the recipient just has to open that file, and Profiler will use it either to add that profile, or - if it is an existing profile - to update the existing profile from it (with the same update page as if you downloaded it from the online). | | | My freeware tools for DVD Profiler users. AFAIK This DVD Collectors Online forum is also still present -- though not very much active currently, I think. It is an option to keep in touch with one another. It was started at the end of the Intervocative years of DVDprofiler (remember those ) and a burst of life every time Invelos seems a bit in an hibernation state. As for the original issue of this thread: is there so much that needs change? Yes, the request list is long enough, but realistically I think there are no real burning issues. Which is one reason to explain the current quietness. With dvd usage declining thanks to Netflix and similar options, we are a smaller group. Probably not really "niche" yet, but still... Likely the uptake of new subscriptions has slowed down, which would well explain the reduced presence of Ken in the fora. He needs to look after some form of income, as we have all to. Finally, many topics seem recurring items. Even this one, which seems to happen every time the latest update is about a year old . | | | Eric
If it is important, say it. Otherwise, let silence speak. |

Finally, many topics seem recurring items. Even this one, which seems to happen every time the latest update is about a year old . Thanks for the forum link. I'll look at it asap. In regards to Netflix and things like it, personally never used either. Heck I don''t even use digital codes either. I have no use for them. As for being a smaller community. I wonder if it come down to not having one main profile for each movie instead of having multiple profiles for the same movie. One can have the same movie in their database, due to different formats or editions, and it's very likely that each profile will be different. And one can go and try to update those profiles, but which profile to choose that is the best to copy from. Then contribute it to have others not like your changes. It's all rather frustrating to some. So people just edit what they want locally and keep it local. So contributions decline. Newer releases missing children profiles, even ones that have been out for months. Box sets that should have children, have none. Even though I use birth years, fake and real, it's also a lot of work to go through profiles. I mean how many approved birth years are now in the database? Hundreds, thousands?? That's a lot to go through. The sheer number likely turns off some to not even bother. Also when someone has a problem with a profile and asks about it in the forum, it's a good chance that there won't be a definitive answer. So the user does what they think is best and contributes and perhaps gets no votes and it gets declined. So they figure, why bother and stops contributing. How long ago was it that Ken said that he was working on a new linking system for cast/crew? Nothing but crickets on that since. All of these things can turn off people from contributing and either just downloads every single updated profile and goes with the flow or they do their best and keep their hard work locally. Either way, not contributing. |
