A lot of users (newer users) of collection software also look for a wider area of media types. Such as being able to scan your harddrive for media, and media specs etc. Which I know dvd profiler will never support.

Since you know it would you mind to share the source?

Are you referring to the last part? That dvd profiler will never support that? Ken has stated that several times here on the forum, and requests like that has been shut down.

Custom media types are already supported. The rest could be supported with plug-ins I suppose.

Just chiming in to cast another vote for a Win8 app. The current software works fine under Windows 8, but an app would definitely streamline things. Of course, I do not know how the app store works for MS and if this would cut into Invelos overhead... so my wishes are purely selfish.

In regards to codec support...

I do believe that dvd/Blu-ray disc support on laptops is going to be a thing of the past... eventually on desktops too. Things will move towards iTunes, Netflix, apps stores and such. I didn't care for Steam at first for a few of the games I play, but have found that 10 years later, I can still install a game that is in my library on any new pc I build.

I think the assumption would be that whatever you use to transport your media will be what provides the necessary codec... whatever that might be.

I took "To get the free download of Windows 8 Media Player, you need to install Windows 8 Pro, register for the Windows 8 Pro Pack through "Add Features to Windows 8" in the Control Panel, and then wait for Microsoft to send you a registration key by email." from a webpage I found.

But he was asking about Windows Media Center, which you do have to purchase to play DVDs or blu-rays.

Which isn't part of Windows but an add on, and currently you an get it free.

To confirm, are you saying that Windows Media Player 8 does Blu-ray?

I have yet to install Windows 8.  I want to put it on a clean install on a bigger drive, but haven't had the time.

But it appears that the Blu-ray codec is not part of it:

I found it on this
blog:

The Windows 8 Media Center Pack adds all Windows Media Center functionality back to Windows 8 Pro including broadcast TV recording and playback and DVD playback. This means that the Windows 8 Media Center pack comes with a codec for DVD, but not Blu-ray. If you want to play Blu-ray in Windows Media Center, you will need to get the appropriate codec from a third-party.

Windows 8 seem to be working quite well for me.

No bug found as of yet

But a cool update to the programm would be a tile that show of your Collection in a random slideshow.

That could be fun what du you think ????

Already integrated.
Try "Collection Gallery"  (Menu "View -> Collection Gallery")
It all seems so stupid, it makes me want to give up!
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid?
