I hear what you're saying, but these were stupid errors where many things were obvious typos and character names being slightly wrong, actors being completely missing etc. I have made this mistake several times from when I first joined and wasn't really aware of the rules and/or complications because I cloned cast into UK profiles and submitted them to the online, stating where I had cloned them from. I'm in the process of fixing these. |

| Posted: | | | | This is another issue where i'd like to have a standard credits based on the movie instead of the specific dvd/BR. This way there are no profiles without credits and more people get to vote on a credit change.

While it is preferable to check the credits against your own copy, it isn't required. As long as you state the UPC/EAN of the profile you cloned, you are good. In the meantime though, cloning an approved as-credited cast from another profile to replace IMDb-scraped data will get us miles closer to a usable CLT. | | | ...James

Yes... and if I remember right... that is when Ken said it could be done. Not only that... I do believe I remember him saying if the people that actually own the disc don't want the cloned data it is within their rights to vote no to it. | | | Pete |

I don't think that's what we're talking about though? We're talking about replacing obvious IMDb data with data from another as-credited profile. I think I found the quote: Quoting Ken Cole:Quote: In general, contributions should be made only for profiles which the contributor owns and can verify. Similarly, contribution votes should be made only for profiles which the voter owns and can verify.
However, there are exceptions. Obviously, prerelease contributions do not require ownership. They should be basic starter information (e.g. complete cast and crew is impossible to correctly contribute without having the disc).
Taking another case, if a particular locality has blank or limited cast info, and the submitter would like to fill it in with their verified cast from their own locality, I would tend to allow the voters who actually own the submitted locality to make the call. However, the submitted contribution notes should clearly indicate that the cast is from the other locality, so that the voters and contribution evaluators can make an informed choice.
One additional reminder to please keep the contribution vote notes completely civil at all times. | | | ...James

| Posted: | | | | yes... that is the post that I was remembering. Thanks for finding it James. So if it is not blank or limited you should not contribute to it... even if you believe it is from IMDB per Ken's statement on it. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | Is there a thread where people list what they have recently completed cast or/and crew audits on? It would be nice to see so if the contributor hasn't got time to clone to other profiles themselves, then others can do it. |

Whats with the women and the communist background Sam lol Don't ask I'm guessing there is no thread then as folks here are generally quick to reply. I think I might start one though tbh, I just wouldn't have the time to maintain considering I'm away for weeks at a time... |

That vote was done BEFORE Ken ruled on the matter: it indicates what people felt what was allowed to be done BEFORE Ken ruled otherwise. Also, this thread clearly indicates that most people are perfectly happy with Ken's decision, as am I: anything that helps clean up the database is more than welcome in my book. |

| Posted: | | | | It was during that vote thread that he made the statement that he would reconsider the position if the community wanted him to. I am also happy with anything that cleans up the database and in your case I am happy that it helps a lot, but you have no way of knowing if there are regional differences and if others are not so meticulous do it then one missed error spreads like a virus.
It would have helped just as easily if you had just pointed out the update in a thread such as is being suggested and waited for those who own the DVDs to incorporate it into their database and verify it against their own copies before uploading. Surely this would be better as it will provide a check against mistakes and regional differences? | | | Last edited: by Graveworm |
