Expressing an opinion for something different doesn't make anyone an elitist. The online will never be "for all" it will be the starting point for all, but that's it. Those in smaller regions with very few contributors would benefit greatly for the work done by those in larger regions with a system like this. If anything could be considered elitist it would be keeping the smaller regions from sharing the db creating by the larger ones.

It would be a major program change I'm sure and I've yet to see anything from Ken hinting he may go this route. You never know though.

I agree that the under-contributed localities suffer under the current system. That's why I think this feature request deserves some consideration. I could do 1 update and help everyone versus the current method of doing 1 update and hoping 99 other people fix the other profiles. (Using my hypothetical 100 figure.)

IMO..

to help out the system that is currently in place.

2 things need to happen.

1- Names must be entered properly as credited.  There are many titles in the DB that (aside from capitalization differences) are not in the DB correctly.  Either they were scraped at one time, or people are entering personal preferences.  Any linking system will  not work, unless the names are correct.

2.  Original titles need to be right.  Our current system relies on names and titles.  It really bothers me, when I do a clt search, and I get 30 different entries for the same movie for the same formatting of the name.  If these were corrected, then the CLT would be more usable.

I don't see either of these two happening, nor do I see a wholesale reworking of the DB and software (I could be wrong, for I am not KEN)

Again

IMO

The horror!

If that is the most famous case it doesn't seem like much of an issue to me

I agree. The value of the perfect credit pales in comparison to the cooperative work required to fix one name in all profiles for a single movie...which can be upwards of 100 contribution updates to achieve.

You make an excellent point, James. To YOU it may not seem like a big deal, to me or others it may be. So that is yet another example of your particular preferencce or bias. But the Online does not just serve your needs, or the needs of the many, most or the majority, it serves ALL. remember that I am part of that collective you refer to and if it does not serve ALL then that makes you an elitist.

It does to me, Rick, since you seem to be supporting a premise which is good for some but not for others, that makes it elitist in my book. The Online has to be of the most general nature to be of value to ALL as a starting point. Not you, not me, not most , ALL. My pont was that you were referring something that benefits YOU but not necessarily ALL. There is no such thing as a valid piece of data which is unimportant such Dave and DavID, to YOU it is unimpiortant to others it is important. I read what you were saying as trying to impose your value on everyone, while those who consider it important are left in the dust by your elitist remark. Irt is two seoparate pieces of VALID data in two versions of the same film, that makes it of value, but perhaps not to you, but you are not alone and some users have multiple copies of the same film(s), for whatever reasons they might have, why should you impose incorrect data on everyone else because it is unimportant to YOU.

Just my opinion, I will always stand in opposition to any user who tries to impose his personal prefernec on the data without regard to REAL data and that is how I read your comment.

It's not terribly uncommon to have movies with the same title and release year. See Buried, for example. We also need to deal with alternate versions. This might work if it was set to also check for matching run-times (to the second), but I'm betting that still wouldn't always catch stuff like Con Air or localized credits. For this to work, we'd have to either manually link the profiles or assign each version of a movie a unique ID.

The CLT reports 47 Titles and 95 Profiles.  While I will give you the 95 Profiles, I challenge you to find 47 individual titles.

This is the Title issue

This does not include the profiles where she is credited as

Ja'Net  Du Bois (10/21 including overlapping titles)

or

JaNet DuBois (2/7 again with overlapping)

This is only one small error, and I am sure that every profiler can find there own instances.

With errors like this, how can we expect any true form of linking or reference?

The other bad thing about it.

I'll bet that in almost all the Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, she is actually credited as Ja'Net Du Bois.  Which would throw the clt into doubt for this name.

Note 2...

According to discussions in other sections, The title field is also wrong.  There is no colon on the cover.  The only difference is the size of the lettering.

The current R1 submission is about to add a new variant (if accepted) as "Ja' Net Du Bois" - notice the extra space.
