I'm not sure if I should laugh or cry.

The old one, together with the old tagline (Take a toke of tea stick), was from "Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical". While that movie indeed had a lecturer, my avatar was the villain of the piece, offering, well, a tea stick.

He sure looked like the villain.  Since I have never seen  "Reefer Madness: The Movie Musical" (but have seen the original "Reefer Madness" from the 30s, I wasn't familiar with the character.  His offering the "tea stick" looked to me like he was wagging a finger and hectoring people.  Your new avatar looks much more friendly, IMO.
