If a title, Store Exclusive and universal release, is released using the same UPC on the same day, the universal release gets the UPC. This has always been the consensous as far as I know. Am I wrong?

I don't know if you're wrong (I've never had one of these). But if you're right: Is it correct to check "store exclusive" when it's actually the "universal release"?

Huh?

If the same title, Store Exclusive and universal release, was released using the same UPC on the same day and I purchased the Retailer Exclusive version, then I'd select the "Exclusive" checkbox. Besides,
I was under the impression that this "Feature" would be local only.

Ah ok, because I was under the impression it was contributable since we don't have local feature checkboxes - yet.

I think it would have to be local.  And if that's the case, I agree that using tags is probably a better solution since no code needs to be changed.
Get the CSVExport and Database Query plug-ins here.
Create fake parent profiles to organize your collection.

It seems to me like a good use of tagging because of the UPC issues involved.
