| Posted: | | | | Personally I think the Academy knows more about crew credits than any of us do.
If they actually gave these 4 people an Oscar for visual effects work on this film then I trust them. Afterall they've been giving out Oscars for over 80 years now and I think they know what kind of work people are doing on a film than any of us do.
In my opinion by not including them is contributing incomplete data and I think incomplete data in this regard is in error because it's not accurately linking these people to this film and their Visual Effects work. |

Perhaps they do (certainly more than I), but, the Academy credits may not align with our categories. As was pointed out are these guys Visual Effects, Creature Design and or Make-up Effects? The one place the Academy really helps us right now is in song writing. If someone is nominated for Original Song they pretty much qualify for a songwriting credit in our database. Other categories don't align that well unfortunately. | | | Bad movie? You're soaking in it! |

What I said was, we don't use 'Academy criteria' when entering crew credits. Our standard is the actual credit as it relates to the Crew Chart. There is nothing in the rules that allows for outside references. Again, who said not to include them? If I were doing this profile, I would include them...just not for visual effects. Edit: I see tweeter is a faster typer than I am. I fully agree with what he said...mainly because he said it better than I did. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. There is no greater power in the universe than the need for freedom. Against this power, governments and tyrants and armies cannot stand. The Centauri learned this lesson once. To me, at least for Dennis Muren and Stan Winston, that screams 'Creature Designer'. I'm with Marvin. The Academy's classifications are kind of beside the point, since there is no Oscar for Creature Designer, but it's one of the slots in DVDP that Ken obviously means for us to use. | | | "This movie has warped my fragile little mind." |

If I remember correctly, this is why we asked for this field...to be able to credit people like Winston and Harryhausen. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | I see it like this:
Full Motion Dinosaurs by Dennis Muren = Visual Effects
Live Action Dinosaurs by Stan Winston = Creature design and visual effects (think before CGI, any film trick to make something appear there that isn't, is an effect in my book. Be it puppets, stop motion, even forced perspective could qualify)
Dinosaur Supervisor Phil Tippet = Visual effects, although I could argue make-up effects as well, esp. knowing about the raptor suits from seeing making-of's
Special Dinosaur Effects Michael Lantieri = Visual effects |
