Quote: I personally agree with you and never use Windows curved quotes, apostrophe, special dashes, special three dots (ellipsis) or tipographic daggers in contributions. Instead I use plain " , ' and just ... and - . I would like some guide lines from Ken, though, so that we can all be on the same page.
FWIW I'm another in total agreement and would like to see all types of 'dash' just transcribed as '-' rather than introducing em-dashes etc. I would really like to standardize all this as well. There's currently a contribution pending where the sole difference is changing Collector's Edition to Collector’s Edition, saying: "Changed edition to use a real apostrophe"... Note that Collector's Edition even appears as a pre-set choice in the program's drop-down menu. And there are people voting in favor of this, too (not too many, though). Please, PLEASE let's not go down this road!! | | | Last edited: by T!M |

| Posted: | | | | I agree, you should use one of the pre-set choicees in the program's drop-down menu, if anyone of them fits.
But when it comes to overview, it's allready stated in the contribution rules that it should be written just as it is on the cover. This would in my opinion also include mis-spellings and different symbols. But as I've tried to add copyright symbols etc before, they don't show up in the Profiler correctly. So I stopped adding special symbols like that. |

| Posted: | | | | The perils of the word "exactly"... It would be interesting to hear from Ken on this because he recently ruled against WALL•E in favor of WALL-E. I recall his comment was that the "•", although possible to do in the program, was not compatible throughout the system as a whole. Something like that. So I'm curious if the same would hold true for these other forms of punctuation. I would be curious to know where, in the program, it doesn't show properly. I have 'WALL•E' in my local title, cast list and overview and it seems to show just fine. The places it doesn't show correctly (at least for me) is anywhere where you can edit it, ie the cast edit screen, overview, etc... & yes m.cellophane, the same applies to the other extended characters such as ™. Everywhere non-editable shows fine. |

I agree. This change seems a tad idiotic to me. Me, too. I voted NO based on the "Make sure your contributions add significant value to the database." statement in the rules. I fail to see where replacing the apostrophe in the title adds any "significant value" and ends up merely a big waste of time -- especially since this was the ONLY thing in the contribution. It's just me, I know, but I don't have the same problem with dashes in an overview. Because they are of different sizes, dashes tend to stand out more than do things like apostrophes, quote marks, and ellipses. And, I am somewhat ambivalent about using other symbols, such as © ® ™ † ‡ -- all of which look okay on my system. | | | Another Ken (not Ken Cole) Badges? We ain't got no badges.
