Granted I am new to the whole DVDProfiler thing, so I don't know what kind of bad taste this idea seems to work up in many people, but I would love to see this in the future. I would gladly pay another $30 for a Video Game Profiler for instance. Adding it to DVDProfiler seems relatively easy, sure, but adding whole new mediums to an already expansive program with what appears to have a very small work force behind the scenes would probably be a bad idea.

I have already started to use DVDProfiler locally for cataloguing my games, but it is far from ideal. But it is seems possible for Ken or maybe someone else (if it was a bought program) to use the DVDProfiler framework and make GameProfiler or MusicProfiler. The framework is already built and is an awesome interface, why not just expand it to more types of Media and charge for it.

Anyway, I'm not an expert by any means in any form of programing, but considering I can pretty much catalogue anything I want locally (albiet in a very basic way), it doesn't seem like that far of a stretch.

So add my vote to the "Yes" crowd, but only as a purchased addon or seperate program altogether.

Not bad taste, just something we like to have fun with. For example, in the year and a half that the Invelos site has been up a Google Search@invelos.com will give you 155 results on CDProfiler. When we were at Intervocative, if I recall correctly the same search yielded around 2000 results. Yes, it is an OFT-requested idea and a very OLD one at that. It is so frequently requested it has become something of an inside joke.

Both you and Mark mention 'improving' Profiler....how?

Maybe I'm being obtuse but I can't see how this program can get any better without taking it to the level of data-for-datas-sake. As it stands it holds all the important information and has some very cool bonus features to boot.

You also mention programs for Comics and CDs that are 'excellent'....please share!

I personally use Collectorz for my other collections but I don't think they're even in the same league as Ken and Profiler.

Unfortunately, it's not. For video games you'd have to use a different system than just having one massive upc-based database. Why? Because game collectors want to collect sets, like every US releases NES game. Anything even remotely giving the chance to track all released game variants AND allow for the above needs thorough planning. Trust me, I've put quite some time into the matter

the Database Query plug-in alone shows a huge amount of stuff missing from the actual program

For those of us not using this plug-in could you explain what you mean?

When I have stated that I think Profiler is practically finished I mean that I, personally, can't think of any more features, crew or extras that are needed.

Just off the top of my head, it's ridiculous that I still have sets where I have to build manual profiles because there are two movies on the same side of the disc.

For a more complete list of what's missing, please visit the Feature Requests area of the site. When we can go 6 months with no new posts there, then and only then would I concede that Profiler is finished.

As I said in the other post, you can turn DVD Profiler into AnyProfiler by creating Manual Profiles and utilizing the Tag feature.

Agree with you here, I've recently done the profile for all the movies in the Chilling Classics boxset and since all the dvd have 2 or more movies by side I was obliged to do it manually. Certainly the hardest profiling job that I've done since I've started using DVDP

50 full audit with hard to read credit and over 20 hours of work... I know that each dvd of the set are in the database, but for the statistics I prefer to count my dvd by movie. I plan to do the same with the rest of my library later this week.

Well, it's only an example as there are numerous other features missing from the program like tracking of watched commentaries and languages (I use tags to track whether I've watched my dubbed version and/or the original) or entering the original language.

Database Query offers two main things:

1) Statistics. Like showing you which director you've got most movies of or how many DVDs are from Australia

2) It helps you to find weak spots in your collection, in two ways. a) In the sense that it finds bad profile data, like a checked commentary feature without a commentary audio track. b) In the sense that it can help you notice glaring gaps in your collection. Like, huh, I've only got 2 Cecil B. DeMille movies? Or: Wait, I have no movie from 1983?

I'm probably missing some important things right now as it's not installed on my 3.5 installation, but you get the point.

Also, just considering the amount of tags I maintain (literally hundreds) it's obvious there's still (more or less) important data missing from the profiles. Example, I would love a possibility to use something in the software itself rather than tags to track Academy Award nominees and Winners (this could work similar to the databases the CC Viewer Plugin uses) which would enable the program to show the correct number of little Oscar statuettes in the profile...

I think the best improvement would be for Profiler to go out purchase your DVDs for you, put them in your database and have someone else pick up the bill... LOL

I do not believe Ken or Invelos made this plug in.  So how does this pertain?

Do you realize how many stupid requests make it into the "requested features?"  Using your criterium the program would NEVER be finished even if it were perfect.

I've been using Realms of Wonder (realmsofwonder.com) for well over a decade for comic books, and OrangeCD Catalog (firetongue.com) for CDs for the last couple years (which supports digital music cataloging too). The CD database is kinda secondary for me since I mainly listen to my music on the Squeezebox (slimdevices.com). The CDs are all in storage, but OrangeCD is still an excellent program.

P.S. I would have used hyperlinks, but for some reason the preview was messing up.

There is no such thing as perfect.

A big thing that is still missing in my opinion is not having info about the special features on the disc... name and lengths of Featurettes.... Who is on the Commentary... which movie trailers there are.

I still think we need to separate Theatrical Trailer (Trailer for movie on the disc) and promo trailers (trailer for any other movie) into 2 different selections.

And as already said... a way to do multiple features on a single side of a disc is still greatly needed as well.

As OUTSTANDING as this program is... to be honest it is far from what a lot of people could call perfect.
