Lar:

I would say and this is simply a guess, not likely. For some of the reasons I previously outlined pelative to HTPC and ultimate viability. Some other thoughts are that this program costs ONLY $30, by that I mean there are companies that produce Media center interfaces and license the use of Profiler's data, some of these are very attractive and quite robust but they are also not cheap, one that I remember looking at one time can be VERY expensive because they have all sorts of various modules that you buy to add to the system, not only DVD data, but TV, Weather, all kinds of crazy things. Possibly when Invelos brings its planned DVDProfiler Plus online, which will be some form of Super Premium service... maybe.

I don't exactly know, lar. I do know it is constantly talked about and has been on the boards for some time now, it will be some sort of monthly subscription over and above the existing program, but EXACTLY what it is going to consist of ONLY Ken knows for sure.

Can I just add my own penny's worth and say this woud be an enourmously welcome addition.

DVDProfiler is already by far and away the best collection management application out there -- believe me I've tried all of them.  As welcome as the 3.5 upgrade is, these are (how can I say this without being flamed) just tweeks to an already fine programme.  In terms of collection management there just isn't much else to do -- it's pretty much perfect.

But what I (and I hope others) need is a polished front end -- something to put on the wall hung plasma to show off our collections to best advantage.  Movie Collector from the Collectorz range has something that is almost there, but not only is the front end a little limited, the collection management doesn't have the polish of DVDProfiler.

I'm not a programmer but I'm sure a plugin for Window's Media Center is no small undertaking.  But it would be the absolute icing on the cake to an already fine program.  So maybe, if other users are in support, this could be something for a paid-for version 4 ?

In the meantime does anyone else out there know of an alternative way of getting the DVDProfiler database into Media Center ?

Open Media Library

If you take the daily build you should get a fairly decent import of the DVD Profiler database, though the import program is not that userfriendly (it's just a command line app done quickly). The latest version imports links to online media using the same syntax in the note field as LoadDVD.

The daily build might contain some half baked / broken stuff, so you might want to look at the last "stable" release. Get it from the Google code download page, instead of taking the one on the front page. Notice this build is a few weeks old, so it does not contain the changed I did to DVD Profiler - which means you will loose a few imported fields, and it can't link to actual online media.

And yes, we all know the integration needs to improve. There is some work done towards allowing running OpenMediaLibrary directly off third party data(so in this case the XML export file as long as we can't get to the actual database), but a more automated import process might work just as well or even better.
Regards
Lars

Hey there, thanks Imoelleb -- this is something I hadn't come across before.

It certainly has the right look about it --- to me the front end is all-important and this looks fantastic.  I'm at work at the moment (working hard as you can tell) but will give it a go when I get home.

It's obviously early days for the project but I'm intrigued -- thanks for the post.
