Time stamp, screen cap, perhaps a reference from a Bonus Feature. If you recognize an actor and provide a time stamp or screen cap, I am not likely to argue with it, uness you start telling me you recognize all them....then I might get a little suspicious.

... If you are talking about an (uncredited) performance all you have to is document it. Not really hard.

I read this "The only way to add uncredited actors nowadays is to have documentation from an impeachable source (which is not IMDB)"

Why not IMDB, if it is true???  And what if the source is that I recognized an actor? How to document it ?

Easy - the way I've done it in the past is to say that I used "visual confirmation" - ie. that I recognised the actor, and add a timestamp for where they appear in the movie so that people can go look for themselves.

It's for the good of the community.

I thought the good for the community was to have contributed profiles.

For example, I find the new rules about cast totally stupid (why not indicate an actor if he really plays in the movie ???)

The more rules are decided, the more the differences between the profile I want and the profile that may be contributed is great.

But there is a good solution to my problem : no more contribution...

I agree there should be a balance with ease of use.

However there's a third way. Do as much of the profile as you can within the rules, submit that, then complete it with the bits you can't for your local. So far it hasn't come down to having to do a full profile before submission.

You'll often find Uncredited actors mentioned in the commentary tracks or even at times on the making of featurette found on the DVD.  Also, another source for the uncredited actor is by visual verification.  If you recognize a particular uncredited actor document it.  You shouldn't need IMDB as a source for the verification.

You can. You just need to document it. What's your point?

I don't know about the rest of you, but after I spend twenty or thirty minutes entering the cast/crew into a profile, I don't find adding the note "added full cast from the film credits" all that much extra work. The time that I spend entering notes is often only a minute or two, which is very little time compared to the full hour that I might spend entering a full profile. Every now and then I find something that I can't come up with a good way to document, so I just skip it and move on. In most cases I will add it to my local profile, but will skip that section when I contribute profile changes.

Because how do you KNOW it is true?  IMDB is inaccurate as often as not.  They frequently miss credited cast members so how can they be trusted for the uncredited ones?  Unless you DO recognize an actor, how are you sure the one IMDB says is there really is?

But if you do recognize someone - say so in your notes with some reference to where that person appears.  For example, in The Outlaw Josie Wales I recognized Richard Farnsworth in the scene with the Comancheros.  So if I were to contribute a cast change for Josey Wales I would identify Richard Farnsworth and the scene where I saw him.  Or with a time stamp if I had the presence of mind to look at the counter when I saw him.
