| | Posted: | | | | I used to be able to contribute DVDs I added myself but cant in this version. I understand some restrictions on users with the free version, but this seems like it would hurt the overall database. I buy a fair amount of movies and tv shows, and it just seems a waste that ones I've had to manually add remain in my collection only.
Any thoughts |

Any thoughts Invelos has gone this way because it is probably the only sustainable model financially. I know that you're Scottish ..... but $30 is a wee amount of money for what you get.  |

But Ken made some changes in the business model, thta frankly needed to be made, he does have a family to feed, just as we all do. (in one form or another) Free doesn't put food on the table.
Also you talk about titles you add manually, which implies that these are titles which you recording, not purchasing innstores. Such titles are NOT contributable and can ONLY be entered manually. The onkly titles which can Contributed are thiose titles which have been purchased in a store or throug a legitimate e-tailer, that have either a UPC/EAN or a Disc ID. You are also not alolowed to Contribute UPCs which are fictional, if you do spend the money, my first recommendation to you would be to carefully read our Contribution Rules.

Any thoughts To answer your question, this was done to prevent abuse. We had users who would create fake accounts to contribute, and vote on, profiles that did not follow the rules. While it is easy to create multiple free accounts, the odds of someone paying for 5, 10 or 20 accounts, is fairly slim. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever.

But as my collection grew I wanted something to help me catalog my collection. So I spent the $30 and was very happy that I did. Now at 269 DVD's and counting it was well worth it. |

Just wait until you have 10 times as many DVDs as some of the rest of us do. Then you'll REALLY appreciate Profiler. Im over 1500 dvd and without DVDP I will be lost. This program i would pay 99$ for it but its only 30$  |

It's better if you have a PDA and use Profiler Mobile, but even with just the standard version you have a way to show what you own. That's the main reason I bought the iPaq PDA I did -- so I could use Profiler Mobile when I'm tempted to buy something. | | | Another Ken (not Ken Cole)

Any thoughts If you buy "a fair amount" of DVDs, then I'm sure you need more than the 50 titles that the free version limits you to, no? I assume you've been using this program (in one form or another) since your membership date, which according to your profile is November 03, 2007 (635 days ago). If you'd saved a nickle (5 cents) for each day since you joined, you'd have enough money. Certainly this program is worth it! Poo |

Any thoughts No thanks, like Unicus69 said, the amount of fake accounts and people seriously violating rules was something i never wish to go back to. |
