When I was adding some of the new credits to a Tomb Raider profile I was thinking that's it's such a shame that I have "Ms. Jolie's Make-up and Hair by" as a job name in my profile but everyone else just gets "Make-up Artist" and was wondering why we couldn't make this information contributable and share it. As long as it's a valid credit as per the crew rules I see no problem, and as long as it's voluntary too - I see no reason to force people to make this extra effort.
What does everyone else think?

I personally would like to see all crew credits go "As Credited"... but kept with the sections we have now so that we don't get every listing there is in the credits. Basically open crew credits (like cast) but only for the sections we decide to track.  If we went with "As Credited" within the sections we have now... even I would do crew credits. Something I have never done to this point.

I'm behind this.  It will also increase transparency.
i.e. We see what the actual credit is, and thus if someone's trying to squeeze it in where it doesn't belong.

Yep!
In the meanwhile, let's use the Contribution notes.

It could be made optionable but not standard as not everyone (like me) enter the as credited role in the other field.

I agree also. It's a bit tedious to have to enter them in the Contribution notes as well (double work), so I would really welcome this change.

I like the idea but I also share Pete's opinion as well.  I do not want open credits where we can enter every single one...confine it to the current set of categories and I would be happy.

That's why I specified: "As long as it's a valid credit as per the crew rules"

In that case...and yes, it seems I misread that part...

Maybe there is a way that Ken can include a checkbox in the Options that allows users to choose standard or custom credits for all cast and crew: if you choose standard, any custom credits are ignored.  This would allow anyone who wants custom credits to download them, but those who want to stick with the current configuration to be satisfied as well.

This sounds like the best option to me.

I would very much like this idea. It would of course stop the constant arguments about functional equivalents that we have on a daily basis and would make for a much more accurate representation of the crew.

And I would finally be able to contribute the much needed Character Designer credit for us anime fans!

Great suggestion northbloke!

IMO, more information is better than less.  Those who don't want data can easily remove it with a few clicks.  Those who do are forced to enter all that data themselves unless we have a way to share it.  Maybe we can have a field suppression system: a checkbox in the option that allows or prevents certain categories of crew.  For example, if you couldn't care less about the Sound department, you would remove the checkbox and that field wouldn't download to your local database.

I've made a request here to get it officially included in the crew list, so go show your support.
