| Posted: | | | | Hi there. Yesterday, I bought 3 movies, fairly fresh for being Norwegian movies, and certainly too fresh to be in the database.
Having read how to contribute movies, and not wanting to do too much duplication, here is what I did:
- I first scanned the UPC of the movie - Then, since it was not found, I swapped to search by title and found the US one (I'm in norway) - I added the US one to my owned, and downloaded images to it. - in the DVD menu changed locallity to Norway - in the DVD menu changed UPC, locality displaying Norway
then I contributed the film, having it selected. On the description, I mentioned that I scanned the norwegian UPC and changed locallity to norwegian.
Why are the contributions being rejected? Could someone help me get it right please? | | | Kutch! - Homepage |

You can't simply download a profile, change the locality and upc, then upload it. You have to make sure that the data matches the locality as well. | | | No dictator, no invader can hold an imprisoned population by force of arms forever. | Posted: | | | | Hi kutch -
What exactly are you putting in the contribution notes?
If you only put "I mentioned that I scanned the norwegian UPC and changed locallity to norwegian." That's possibly why they're declined.
Generally if I'm copying from an existing entry, I quote the UPC in my notes. Also have you removed/changed everything from the US entry that doesn't apply to the Norwegian release like the price? |

| Posted: | | | | Not sure why... but are you doing new scans of the cover art? if not are you submitting the cover art? if you are that could be (atleast) one of the problems... as you have to make sure the cover art is correct for the release you have. Even if the only thing that is different is the UPC/EAN on the back it would be against the contribution rules and be declined. IF you want to contribute be sure to go over and learn all the Contribution Rules for submitting. And make sure you verify everything and write complete notes with any documentation needed. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | Thanks for all your replies! Wow, seems like a lot of stuff to do when all I wanted was to add the Norwegian version of a movie, but what you're saying is making sense I'm probably not going to do all the work you folks mention as required. My review skills are not as good, I dont have a scanner, and frankly, typing in all the artists and features of the movie is something that I probably can help to correct, but I won't be typing it all in. What is then the proper way to do this for someone like me? I scan the movie, if it's not there in the list, I just try again a few days later or? | | | Kutch! - Homepage |

| Posted: | | | | Very True... if there is any uncredited cast that is not documented it will get declined. Even if it is taken from another profile you need to document the uncredited cast.
As for the Cover Art... if you don't have a scanner... just upload the profile without the cover art. When you click Contribute there is a check box for the cover art... make sure you uncheck it. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | With new entries, a lot of people prefer to enter a basic profile such as - Title, release date, SRP & when possible cover scans. With copying however, things like cast/crew can just be duplicated (a quick check against the credits wouldn't hurt though due to potential errors in the original, different voice actors, etc...). I would probably only sumbit what you are comfortable with. There's no right or wrong amount to submit. Some people spend hours on one entry, documenting absolutely everything, others do basic entries. In my opinion as long as the data sumbitted is correct & valid, it's a decent submission. As you don't have a scanner, you'll need to remove the cover art. Go into the cover scans section, go to File & Clear. You'll need to do this for both Front & back scans. Or do as Addicted above says. You mention waiting a few days if it's not there. That's usually OK for countries like USA/Canada/UK. However for non English speaking countries, the userbase is a bit smaller so it's always possible that you're the only one who has a particular title. | | | Last edited: by Ardos |

If your UPC is not found in the main database, you might want to try to Add it by Disc ID, after having inserted the disc in the DVD player of the computer on which you are running DVD Profiler. If there is profile with that same Disc ID in the database, even if different UPC, DVD Profiler should find it, so you can download it, check it and change what's different in the copy you own. If the Disc ID is the same, it's most likely that the data from the DVD itself should remain exactly the same, while the data from the box can be different. | | | -- Enry | | | Last edited: by White Pongo, Jr. |

| Posted: | | | | So what's the minimum amount of information needed? I scan the movies with a barcode scanner, Movie Title is a dead giveaway. I also enter price and whatever information I can read from the cover, usually, I get home with a few new movies, scan them into the collection and start watching | | | Kutch! - Homepage |

| Posted: | | | | there are a lot of Norwegian releases that are not in the database. When I first got DVD Profiler and was unsure or didnt want to bother with making a new profile I simply entered the tile and saved whichever other release there was of that DVD. But after getting more used to the profile and not seeing the release getting added I realized it was up to me to add it. So I had to recheck all my profiles that didnt match the DVD release I added, and add them myself.
So I started learning the rules and asking here if I needed help and eventually started contributing the correct profiles. Which is what I would advise you to do too. Start being a part of the community and adding profiles to make this the most correct user created database there is. Every little bit helps. If not, at least create the correct UPC. Throw in some cover scans if you can find or have them, add title and whatever you feel you are capable of. And hopefully someone else will fill in the blanks. I've downloaded many profiles that only have a few things. Like title along with the correct UPC. Of course it would be better to try and fill in as much as you can (the minimum amount as stated earlier in this post), and not hope someone else will always complete your contributions. Its better than nothing I guess. |
