I don't have any of the other titles she's been credited in, so I can't check myself. If her credits in those other titles can be demonstrated to be wrong as well, as is the case in 37 Chocolat profiles, then of course I'll be happy to change my vote.

If I understand your post correctly, this actress has the following five credits in the database:

- Credited as Dominique Mac'Avoy in 'Chocolat'.
- Credited as Dominique MacAvoy in 'Sweet Revenge'.
- Credited as Dominique MacAvoy in 'Tatie Danielle'.
- Credited as Dominique Mac Avoy in 'Demetan: 1ere partie'.
- Credited as Dominique Mac Avoy in 'Fraggle Rock'.

So that's one "Dominique Mac'Avoy" credit, two "Dominique MacAvoy" credits, and two "Dominique Mac Avoy" credits. Assuming these are correct, of course - it would help if someone could confirm any of the other four credits. As it is, it's a tie between the latter two variants, but using "Dominique Mac'Avoy" as the common name is decidedly the worst pick of all.

It's unclear whether there is enough information to link names [Credited As] accurately.

You really can't wrong by entering it As Credited though.

I bet that wouldn't be too hard in this case. I'm happy to look into that when I've got a bit of time - not today, I'm afraid - I was now merely trying to present the data given by Giga Wizard in a clear manner.

You can. If "Dominique Mac'Avoy" is not her common name, then entering it as such is wrong. Some people tend to forget that the use of common names/credited as is decidly not optional. The rules simply tell us to do so where needed: Use the "Credited As" field where the person's name differs from the credited name. There's no "if you feel like it" addition - there's nothing optional about it. Of course you can always get out of it by claiming that you didn't realize that it was needed, but if you're aware of it, then needs to be applied. And quite rightly so: if everyone thinks "well, you can't go wrong with simply 'as credited'", then we'll never end up with correctly linking data.

If there is a definitive common name, i use it to link.

If a single common name can't be determined (for example: two or more names with the same number of titles) what do you do?  Arbitrarily selecting one isn't the answer.  For any given profile As Credited is correct.

Linking would be nice but first the data must be correct.  The credit can't be forced.

Huh?! How can you possibly arrive at "Dominique Mac'Avoy [Dominique MacAvoy]" when there are more credits using the latter variant than the first one?! That's turning things upside down...

no my claim is that the actress in Chocolat is credited Dominique Mac'Avoy
The CLT tell's me that there are 43 profiles for this actress.
If she is the same actress in these other movies then the credit should be per CLT
Dominique Mac'Avoy [Dominique MacAvoy] for Sweet Revenge if that credit reads like that in that movie
and so on...

I; m afraid I cannot follow you there Giga.

As it stands, you need proof that Mac'Avoy is indeed the correct name because the CLT proofs otherwise although the numbers are really low.

The same goes for the other common name you changed. for that one, the CLT results are a bit more overwhelming by the way.

If there is a tie in the number of titles, I would check the number of profiles.

Sorry, I'm profiling Chocolat and the credits tells me that is her credit, I' don't have those other movies either. I only have the CLT to go by and for DVD Profiler purpose this is now her common name: Dominique Mac'Avoy (43 profiles)

Ah, we're back to the old discussion on whether to count individual profiles or titles for the CLT. I'm sorry, but in the absence of a clear ruling from Ken on this issue I'm still inclined to go by the number of titles.
Any users out there who have the other titles? If so, please tell us what her credits in these other titles read.

This totally contradicts the CLT numbers from your openingpost...

I'm sorry, but that's wrong. The entire common name system is about taking into account people's other credits in the database - it's not just about being shortsighted and just looking at the ones you own yourself. Again, if everyone did that, we'd never get anywhere as far as linking is concerned. If you were going to ignore them anyway, then then why did you even bother to post all those CLT results in the first place?

Also, I've rounded up some links:

- http://muppet.wikia.com/wiki/Dominique_Mac_Avoy (lists four of the five credits we talked about)

- http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0531359/ (lists all five credits we talked about, and specifically mentions the Mac'Avoy alias)

- http://ftvdb.bfi.org.uk/sift/individual/963363 (lists both 'Chocolat' and 'Tatie Danielle', confirming that at least those "MacAvoy" and "Mac'Avoy" credits refer to the same person)

- http://www.allmovie.com/cg/avg.dll?p=avg&sql=2:44101~T0 (see previous entry)

- http://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/participant.jsp?participantId=1171144|0&afiPersonalNameId=null (same)
