Hello,

I like to update the dutch MAD MAX Trilogy with UPC 7321931240086.
It is a clamshell that has three discs into it. This clamshell is put in a slip case.

The profile right now is a mess. Crew and Cast is a mix of all 3 Mad MAx movies. No Child Profiles available.

I like to do the following:
Remove all the false data from the "slip case" profile. Then add 3 Child profiles for each disc via Disk ID and fill in the correct data for each film.

Is this correct ?

Or is it better to add the data for all 3 films using Dividers ?

I fear that I will get No votes when i remove the data from the slip case profile, as the discs inside do not have a case for each film, they are only put together in one clamshell.

Curious to hear your opinions.

greetings
Donnie

The rules tells you exactly what to do. 3 movies on 3 separate discs is a boxset... so you make it a boxset profile.

I will give you this much advice though. I would not remove the info from the parent profile till the child profiles are at least approved. This way if any unforeseen circumstances delays the approval of the child profiles the info is still there in the parent profile until you can get them approved.

I would say that if the films are on separate DVD's then technically regardless of how they are held that still constitutes a Box Set so you would be right to break it down in said profiles.

If however the Three films are on a single disc, then it would remain a single profile, but using dividers to separate the three sets of cast / crew (in the appropriate sections)

So Box Set, three new Child Profiles for the three DVD's then allocated to the slipcase profile as box set contents.

Bahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Now i got a problem.
This Mad Max Trilogy was released twice with different UPC codes.
No problem so far.

But the DISk IDs are the same in both releases.
And the other release has the Disc IDs already as child profiles, with dif covers, overview of course.

Is there any way I can contribute the Discs from my boxset now ? (UPC not possible, Disc IDs already used)
I guess not, but maybe someone has an idea.

Unfortunately those are the only 2 ways to contribute. I guess you will have to do the best you can for the parent profile for online. Using dividers and all... but locally you can create the correct boxset yourself if you prefer.

.
Sources for one or more of the changes and/or additions were not submitted. Please include the sources for your changes in the contribution notes, especially for cast and crew additions.

Since the Dsic ID's are already used for another boxset that does not mean you cannot use them for your box set, you just won't be able to update the cover images for the Disc ID's cast/crew etc would be the same for the Disc ID's though.

As for the Parent...strip away the clutter that is in the online Profile input the Box Set Contents (Disc ID's) and re-submit...at least then another Profile will be correct as per the rules.

It probably wouldn't be kosher to link the existing Disc ID profiles to your soon-to-be box set parent (wouldn't those image replacement wars be fun) but you might want to include the Disc IDs in the notes for others who want to add them locally.

Unless the box set you have was released before the other box set, then you can update the disc profiles with the box set you have.  However if the other box set was released before yours or the same day as yours then it wins for having that boxset covers and profiles.

It is allowed by the rules, we already run into this issue with existing non BluRay DVD releases.  Where the DVDs are used over and over again in box set releases.

It's perfectly acceptable to attach child profiles to more than one boxset. This has happened loads of times in the UK with companies repackaging films ad infinitum.
The only problem you'll get is if someone has both boxsets in their personal database - that won't work because you are only allowed one instance of each profile.
But for the online a disc profile can be attached to as many parent profiles as it needs to be.
As others have mentioned, the only things you probably won't be able to change on the profiles are case type, release date and cover scans - everything else should be the same as your discs anyway.

As Snarbo and North indicate, simply create the parent profile for your set and attach the existing child profiles that match the disc ID.  Since they are the same discs, all the data should be the same with the exception of the cover images.  Just look on the bright side, you no longer have to create 3 new profiles from scratch.

Good to know.

It's not something i'd run into and know i'd be startled to download a parent + child profiles and discover the children had images that in no way matched the parent.  I think i'd understand why that was and know what not to do but i'm sure there would be others who would submit replacement images to match their parent.
