| Posted: | | | | Hey folks, this is not about the "Lock" feature for your local database, this is just pefectly fine. It is about the "Lock" feature that prevents contributions. With DVD profiler program updates, things change, new rules, new features and all that stuff. Then it happens that you want to update a profile, for example overview to match 3.5 rules, but you simply cannot do it because 6 people locked it. Now you have to pm guys that previouls ycontributed to that update, but there you maybe find only 1 or 2 guys who worked on it. All you can do is pm them and ask them to remove the lock, tho you do not even know if those guys locked this profile. I think this is a bit ridiculous What do you guys think about removing the option to lock prfiles that prevent contributing. We have a voting system AND the screeners, that should be enough to prevent good data to be replaced with false one. Curious what you think. greetings Donnie | | | www.tvmaze.com |

I personally have always been against it. Too much can change... not only if a new version comes out that changes how we do something (like adding italic or bold like we have here now)... or even if it is just a change in the rules. That could cause us to need to update something that is locked.
It wouldn't be half as bad if there was a more reliable way to get titles unlocked. But the way it is now just don't work. | | | Pete |

| Posted: | | | | Fortunately locking isn't used that much (that i'm aware of). I don't have the Criterion Brazil but i suspect it's history includes many people trying to add inappropriate material.
The one disc i've fully locked on-line is the Back to the Future box set container profile. However it's not completely locked yet and so every couple months someone comes along and tries to add cast/disc/whatever information the belongs in the child profiles. Then they get hammered with No votes (and likely some PMs) then back off or are Declined.
Then we sit back and wait for the next one. It will be interesting to see if the ability to auto-download child profiles mitigates some of this behavior. | | | Bad movie? You're soaking in it! |

| Posted: | | | | Oooo good one tweeter. That certainly is probably the most frequent, there are some others that I am surprised we don't see more attempts on. I almost find BTTF amusing when it happens, it's been out for years and along comes somebody thinking it's been overlooked so "I just have to correct this." Instead of stopping and thinking about it for a few minutes and thinking just maybe this is the way it is supposed to be. Skip | | | ASSUME NOTHING!!!!!! CBE, MBE, MoA and proud of it. Outta here

| Posted: | | | | You'd think at the very least that any fields that are affected by updates to the software could have their locks removed, so the updates could be made. I agree with Donnie and Pete, we have voting and screeners and local locks - I see no need for online locks too - especially one that's reliant on users still being around to unlock them. |

| Posted: | | | | Keeping the LOCK system will prevent us from correcting the database according to new rules and updates.
I will message KEN about this I guess and ask him to get rid of it.
With the screeners and the voting system the LOCK system is only causing trouble from keeping the database up to date. And isn't that what we want to have ? An updated database ?
greetings Donnie
P.S. thankfully Comicer removed his Brazil lock, so I could update it, but this was pure luck, that I found the right guy. | | | www.tvmaze.com |

| Posted: | | | | When the LOCK feature was introduced it may have been a good idea. IIRC it was before we could vote on contributions, when the rules were "more guidelines than actual rules" (Parley! ). I can't even remember whether I've ever encountered a lock when contributing but then again I contribute only running times because they are rarely a matter of discussion. | | | Karsten DVD Collectors Online

| Posted: | | | | Personally, I don't see a need for an online lock. The few times that I have posted erroneous data, I was told about it NUMEROUS times. Through the voting system and through PM's. And to get a image approved via the voters sometimes is near impossible. I haven't actually encountered a problem with a lock, but have looked at some of the ones that were commented on. Even BTTF, with he new profiler, will need to have it's studios updated. Unfortunately, it will have to be done when one of the lockers gets around to it. |
